It is 13 or 17 wire instillation.

The extra 4 wires are for Region Free capabilities. These wires are not mandatory.

If you choose to install the extra 4 wires make sure you know how to protect your Wii from a region brick.

It is 4 extra wires for imports. They probably haven't updated their NEWS page yet. I know it is 4 extra wires because I have an ARGON already.

If you tried playing an out of region game disc without the 4 extra wires then you will get a disc read error.

If you have the 4 extra wires then depending on the Import it will play. Just make sure you know how to protect yourself from a region brick.

HERE is the main points of the ARGON instillation.

HERE is the points for the 4 extra wire for IMPORT support.

Hi i have finally managed to install the Argon chip after waiting 4 weeks for it , also got my programmer too so all set to go, only question is how do i protect myself from region brick ? I have metroid prime 3 and it is asking me to update do i do this or not ? , i have a PAL console and connected the extra 4 wires for the PAL also did i need to connect the 4 wires or not ?
If i left them off would i be able to play all imports ?
i am so confused , this does play "backup games" so i know it is working and plays orginals too
Any help greatly appreciated

thanks for everything

Is the metroid prime 3 PAL or NTSC(U)?

If it is PAL then you will have no issues updating it with the game disc update.

If it is the USA version make sure your Wii has the latest firmware installed (3.0 or higher). Even then you will still get duplicated news and weather channels after the USA firmware update, But your settings should be fine.

So your best bet is to get the PAL version of metroid prime 3.

As stated above I said you need the extra 4 wires to play Imports so what do you think the answer to the above question is?

HUH?

You need no switch.

You either don't install the 4 extra wires and will only be able to play games that correspond with your system or you install the 4 extra wires and can play all games that correspond with your Wii and compatible Imports as well.

If you have an NTSC(U) Wii then yes you use the SX pad for USA Wii systems. This will let you play compatible NTSC(J) and PAL game disc on the Wii.

I have USA (NTSC) version of Wii. I have an Argon with the 13 wires (not 17). I have a US version of Metroid Prime 3(NTSC) and it is still asking me to update software on the Wii.

Is this ok to do? Don't want to brick my Wii.

I am always leery of taking updates with the chip installed.

If there is a thread that talks about when taking updates is Ok and not OK...I would love to know about that one.

Wii w/Argon chip, DS with R4DS 2gb mSD and TTDS 4gb mSDHC

As long as your Wii is NTSC(U) and the game disc is NTSC(U) then yes it is fine to update. Nintendo placed the unauthorized device warning during updating as a scare tactic. As of now it is perfectly fine to update.
