I'm familiar with this site.

What files are you referring to?

the movies? I myself have not subscribe to the site yet, a buddy of mine gets his movies from there. He mentioned that he has to convert them to DVD format? I'm not exactly sure what it is that he does to convert them, hoping you can help me with what software I would need to convert them to be burned to a dvd disc.

Most downloads are ususlly avi and can converted to dvd by either dvd flick ( free ) or something like winavi and then can be burner to a blank dvd.

BTW for what they charge, Netflix is by far cheaper ( only to watch of course )

If they are movies, downloads are most likely mp4, avi(Divx, Xvid...), .divx, mpeg, WMV, MKV. These are the formats most popular, with AVI being at top I would say.DVD Flick supports all of them.

http://beginwithsoftware.com/videoguides/dvd-flick-guide.html

Another format would be RMVB, you need a different software , like Winavi(payware) or Movie DVD Maker(free):

http://www.topdrawerdownloads.com/download/104952

It could be the entire DVD compilation in a ISO container(those are usually >3-4GB files), in which case you just burn a disc image with Nero or ImgBurn.

All those could be in a rar archive, in which case you use Winrar to unpack the archive and get your video, then convert it.

if your downloading movies from like Netflix etc. its not allowed to convert them to DVD being you did not buy them! so be careful what you post
Has nothing to do with Netflix,Blockbuster or such, does not infringe any forum rules( same way if someone says I got my movie from mininova.org,or on LimeWire) as long as a direct link to download is not posted. Easynews is a server that can be accessed by Usenet clients. Is like a paid for, fancy, fast "torrent server", so the users actually pay for their downloads.

Okay the files are .avi.
My buddy was saying to use WinRAR to unzip them and then to use xilisoft to convert them to dvd format.

iluvendo - thanks for the link to dvd flick, i'll try that first as I don't really want to pay forty bucks for xilosoft.

Thanks everyone.

Thjere is no reason to pay money for a program. DVD Flick does the job( I included a link to a guide for DVD Flick in my previous post). If you wanted to buy something, I would go for ConvertxtoDVD.

thanks cyprusrom. I did see your link and send my apolizes for not including you in the thank you, as your email was very informant and answered all the questions and explained all the file types as I did not know at the time of the posting ( i should of joined EasyNews before posting the question) and I would prefer not to pay for the program if not needed so thanks again.

I would say last question but it probably wont be.

Will DVD Flick work with Windows Vista. It fails to mention Vista in the requirment for the operating system.

Is it possible to download the program and set its compatibility to run in XP?
DVD Santa was giving me some problems until I switched it over to run its compatibility mode with XP

MPENNY---You say unzip TO an .ISO? You can use IMGBurn to burn or build an .ISO . If they are zipped (or .rar), use WinZip or WinRar to unzip it. WinRar will also unpack your .ISO if you want but thats a different story...You said it was .avi before, use DVDflick or if you have Nero use Nero Vision. I personally dont use DVDFlick since I'm familiar with Nero but I'm pretty sure it works with Vista cause I havent read any threads specifically saying it doesnt (even though I dont post alot, i read most everything...)

Okay. How exactly to I take the rar file and have extract it, or make it an iso., to use with DVD Flick or Nero to burn?

That is where I'm running into my first problem.

Please help, I've looked for a guide but i'm coming up short on finding one.

Thanks,

MPenney

Do you have Winrar installed on your computer? If not, you have to install it.Then double click the rar file(if your movie came in a multitude of rar files just double click on the first one). Winrar will open, click on the folder and then choose "Extract to"(or click on the "Wizard"). Choose the location where you want the movie to be extracted to and click "okay".
