FYI I tried to mod my wii D2C chipset and install the D2C chip and I ruined my drive. I removed the D2C chip and cleaned the pins up a bit and the flux and sent the Wii back to ninty who paid for shipping and got a new drive in my Wii back within a week. No cost on 2 year warranty. They made me send it it to NYC. I wonder if I can send another dead Wii back if I screw it up again? Bonus they gave me 4 games back too. Drive came with a 1 year warranty. Nice!

You got lucky.

If they find out that you're sending dead drives that had attempted mods like that not only will they charge you extortionate prices, but they probably won't repair any more.

although might be easier let someone who knows what they are doing chip it for you
