Does the HDD slow down the 360?

I bought a new HDD a few weeks ago, and it seems like the 360 loads the games a lot slower. I have also been playing a game that has been freezing as well. (I'm pretty sure its just the game) I haven't had my 360 long and I still don't know a lot about it, so this is probably a dumb question to some people, and I may be overreacting. But my original xbox games and my Halo 3 seem to take a lot more time to load.
