hi guys,

sorry if this has been answered already but i tried the search and still couldnt figure out the answer.

im from the uk basically i got a modded japanese wii for xmas with several japanese games (couldnt get a uk one). anyway im happy with the japanese machine (dont understand some of the menus but not to worry) but im bored of the games that came with it now and want some more. but ive heard rumours that buying new uk games or even japanese games could brick my wii.

so i started reading up on the bricking thing and from what i gather the best way to avoid bricking my machine is to not play uk games which might update the firmware, or even better buy a game that will update the firmware but make sure its a japanese game. after doing some more digging id heard that wii fit will have the newest version of the firmware and would update my machine (so long as i buy the japanese version?)

i just want to make sure im right in what im thinking, that i should buy a japanese version of wii fit, that will automatically update my wii firmware version, then i'll be safe to play other wii games (from any region) without bricking my wii?

please help as im really struggling to understand this, i have no idea what a wiikey is either which doesnt help (and i dont know what version my wii is, or what modchip thingy it has either - it came modded when i got it)

please help!

(sorry for the long thread)

thanks.

k - safest way, update over the internet... The console will ask for the firmware pertaining to your console - in this case the Jap one. You should be able to update using Jap games as well though as long as you are 100% sure they are Jap.

As far as the modchip is concerned. You need to know what chip is in there because if it's a wiikey for instance it may need an update and will do in the future.

If it's a new console it will almost certainly have the D2CKey in

http://wiitracker.nintendo-scene.com/search.php

Will give an indication of whether you have a D2C drive or otherwise, thus narrowing down the possible modchips. The only other thing to do is open it up and see.

Hmmm a bit tricky lol - But if you are ok setting up wireless connections then it can still be done. Here's a translation of the Wii pages for you.

http://www.sheylara.com/wii/wii_system_s...lation_v1.0.pdf

As far as updating your modchip is concerned. ID the chip first m8 and go from there. They are all different but if it's a wiikey (the most popular) then it'll be no prob. If it's D2Ckey (on newest systems) then no update is necessary.

thanks for the advice so far. i ordered a japanese verson of wii fit and its turned up today so i'll give it all a try later when i get home.

does anyone know what will happen when i put in the wii fit game? will it just prompt me to update the firmware and do it automatically or is that when it will try to connect to the internet to upgrade??

The updates on the disk it won't try to connect to the net, it will give you a scary little message basically saying the update may affect Wii's with mod chips, but it's nothing to worry about. Just update and your ready to play some games from other regions, I'd still advise you to brickblock them first though.

thanks for the advice, how do i brickblock the game? is it hard?

also, i cant read japanese - does anyone know which button i'd click (for example the left or the right of the screen) or just it just update automatically without asking me if i want to?

Dont suppose anyone has a screenshot of what it looks like? or a picture of the japanese text for YES or NO and WOULD YOU LIKE TO UPDATE :)

You could just use trial and error if all else fails, but I don't have a clue with Japanese myself maybe watch some of the vids of people playing the game on youtube.

Here is a link to the Wii brick blocker web site its quite a simple program to use you just open it and select the iso and brick block it when you open the program it should be quite obvious, you may also find a program called region frii useful, not sure how to use it as I haven't but allows you to play some disks from other regions that you previously were unable to play, you may find this thread usefull.

the results said this...

There is a 77% chance that your drive chip is a GC2-D2B
and a 23% chance that it is a GC2-DMS

what does this mean?

also i seem to be struggling to play PAL games, is there a way to make it so i can play any region?

hi people buying games are over rated.
best way to get games are .iso's an there free games
all u need is a modchip a dvd burner, img burn, wiibrick blocker, regionfrii, power iso and a good site like wiiso.com high speed internet is a must. an from this u can make your own games from any region.
so you can update ur firmware with out buyin jap, ntsc, pal games for the update. for this all you do is

if the files a rar extract them they shud become iso.
download the game iso. ( mario kart jap firmware 3.2-j )
wii brick blocker removes the update not need unless its ur region
regionfrii changes the games region (still might on ur wii tho)
use img burn at 2.4speed dvd- is a must unless its dual layer dvd.
o yeh make sure ur modchip is up2date

this shud fix semi bricked wii-j i think

I also have a japanese wii, but the strange this with mine is, that I can't get into the settings screen at all. I get the opera browser screen and it says that the opera browser is missing.

I just bought the american Wii Fit and it works perfectly with the Japanese Wii. I did see some kind of update screen and of course since I couldn't understand the menu's I just went ahead and let the wii do what it had to do and it works fine.

Does anyone have a screenshot of what the update screen looks like on the Japanese Wii.
