Not sure why some people make a big stink about this. I mean if you have PS2 games, then one would suspect that you have a ps2 system to play them on.

Save your laser - play ps2 games on your ps2 system, leave the ps3 for ps3 stuff and BD's etc.

Just my thoughts anyways.

yeah i suppose you may be right. Its funny though how the old hardware worked so well. I remember when I first got my ps2 (when it was just released)...I went away for a week or something, and i must have forgotten to power off the system. had no problems with it still to this day (like 6 years possibly 7 years later).

oh well, i was just wondering. ;)

yeh God Of War 2 is good, but once you have finished it i would prefer to play a PS3 game, That was finished AGEZ ago! you seem to just have poor choices of games, i dont think i know anyone who brought Turok, the demo was bad enough. Devil May Cry looks like it will be a good step into the next gen for the "god of war" type of game, untill we get god of war 3. maybe im just not the sort of person who goes back to playing GT on a PS1, im lookin forwards, not backwards!

Personally, i think the the PS2 raised the bar on consoles by offering BC. It sold me, i picked my PS2 up at launch and retired my PS1.

Same concept here. I want BC because as Tyler Durden says "On a long enough time line, everyone's survival rate drops to zero." (paraphrased)

If my original Ps2 drops out i've still got a library of games i get the itch to play and i want to still play them.

I personally wanted the BC and am kicking myself for not getting the 60G at launch.

BTW: My PS2 is still hooked up in a different room because my wife is a Guitar Hero addict.

Let's be fair, backwards compatibility is a great feature. If you have the PS3, and its newest games, you can add that to the thousands of games available for PS1 and PS2.

But, I don't think it's vital. As some have already said, if you bought the PS3, you're buying it because you want that next-gen machine but the BC is a great add-on feature.

Since I have an original launch PS3 (20), I can play all my old PS games. I haven't played one game though.

I don't think losing the BC on the newer models is enough of a reason to boycott the system/company (as some lunatics have been raving about), but to each their own...

Definately agree there. It's no reason to walk away from an incredible machine and boycott the company themselves.

Fact is, i'm a gamer. It's nice to be able to play all three systems' games on one console. And i do. I was playing Parasite Eve, on the PS3 last night!

100% agree with you, its definitely something nice to have, but I've got the 60 gig and I've never bothered to play a PS2 game on it since I got it as well. I'm sure I wouldn't loose any sleep if it were to be taken away from my system.

Well I'm still waiting on the titles like Metal Gear and Killzone for PS3.They need BC for the consumers that wait on games that have been in development for too long.I play the PS2 version of Madden all the time, because Madden for the PS3 was a huge let down for me.There are a bunch of improvements they could do besides BC,but as mentioned it is a nice feature and I can't say I hate it.

The backward compatibility is important so a PS3 owner has something to play while he is waiting for the PS3 games to arrive. Which seems to be somewhere in future..

I haven't owned a PS2 for about 2 years as i sold it to buy a PSP, then i sold my PSP to fund a PS3. But because of crappy games that are out now, and i've completed the likes of Assassins Creed, COD4 and Uncharted, the latter 2 being superb, i went out and bought Resident evil 4. What an excellent game as i missed it last time round. If there was no BC, i wouldn't have got the chance to play it.

No sorry, PS2 games are region coded. PS3 games on the other hand are region free.

I could careless if any of the new PS3's have Backward Compa. I have the 60 gig.... HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA.. oh plus I have a PS2. If you want to play PS2 games take the money you saved with price drops and go buy you a ps2.... Otherwise stop bitching.... If you bought the new PS3 after the price cut then you dont deserve having the same benifits as those who paid out the azz for the originals.... Besides... Like others said, I bought the PS3 for PS3 games. I have a modded PS2, I havent played ANY ps2 games since I bought my PS3 in Nov of 06. If I do play PS2 games I play them on my PS2......

Omg.... That is the lamest excuse... The PS3 has so many more abilities than playing games.... That doesnt even make sense, you can download games off the store... They keep me busy when I am bored and dont feel like getting to a long drawn out game.....

Personally, I have backwards compatability on my PS3 and have never even used it. PS2 graphics are too outdated in my opinion. Plus my original PS2 still works (got it on day 1 of release!). Now thats what I call a good product. Man PS2 was so awesome when it first came out, but im over it now.
