All the Hitachi's before the 79 involve the same procedure if I remember correctly, so I would go with those. No tricks to deal with, the hardest part is taking the freaking case off(not that hard if you have patience).

to flash a hitachi drive do i need a kit or to put in mode b, or is it as eay as the benq and just put in dos and flash or use iprep...

use the SLAX METHOD works great to get it into MODE B. Let the CD do all the work.

I've never flashed a Benq but I've read the process, it sounds pretty easy to do...but compared to a Hitachi it seems like Rocket Science.

flashed two benqs this week. took about 5 minutes to do it. would have been less, but wanted to make sure the orig.bin was valid before i flashed it. other wise it takes a whole two commands to flash it.
