PSP memory card games???

Hello everyone,
My wife bought me a PSP (she is the best), but I would like to know what the best why is to play games off of my 1g mem stick?
I have been trying to find out on the net, but everyone is saying different things. E.G Use homebrew or downgrade to 1.5
I unfortunately upgraded from 1.0 to 2.6 :( So should I downgrade to 1.5 and risk bricking my psp...?
Is there anybody out there that can help a poor technologically impared South-African? ;D

to be fair, if done correctly and carefully there is no more chance of bricking when downgrading than when upgrading using official sony firmware
you are on 2.6 so my recommendation is to upgrade to 2.71 (find the 2.71 EBOOT.PBP file and place in PSP Drive:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder and run from psp)
then use the 2.71 corruption free downgrader to take you to 1.5 so that you can install custom firmware from there
oince at 1.5 find the m33 custom firmware

but you will need to go to 3.52m33 before you can get to the highly recommended 3.71m33 or even 3.90m33 (not much difference, but fyi I am on 3.71m33 as no games require higher than this at the moment)
use the various decent stickies around this forum and come back for more help if you need it
PS My really strong recommendation is to get a pandora battery and magic memory stick for backup safety to unbrick your psp at any time and also as a quick way of installing custom firmware in the future

O.K I have downloaded the 2.71 upgrade. I will upgrade... then downgrade and let you know how it went!
So this Magic Memory Card. Can I just walk into a comp.shop and buy one or do I have to know a guy who knows a guy...

O.K Wait just one minute,
The Downgrader I got here is 'PSP Firmware 1.50 File (EBOOT) North America' from a link I found on a dark alex site.
Does the 'North America' affect me in some ominous way...? I am sure my wife got this PSP from China or Japan!
I will search for a relevant downgrader in the mean time!

O.K New update!
I have managed to put the downgrader onto my psp + the 2.71 homebrew.
FANTASTIC, what a stress... but now When I want to 'update' to 1.5 it says I already have 2.71 and that it is not nesasary for me to upgrade.
Bastards! Maby I am using my homebrew incorectly?

do u have gta liberty city stories unpatched the one with 2.00 update on it?

Hell, I have GTA : Lib City Stories but I do not know if it is 2.00, Sould I stick it in there before I run the 'downgrade'
e.g select home, then go to game, update 1.5?

put the game into the psp don't run it, then go to the game menu u will see and update version let me now what it is.
don't run the update.[b/]

OOOO wait,
If I go to game and I go to the umd simble it says psp update ver 2.00!
Nice!!!! What now?
I went to the load option in GTA but It has no data?
How can one man be so lost... mmmmmmm

I try to update it with that 2.00 aswell but it gives me the same message. 'you already have 2.71 upgrading is unnesasary'... or someting like that.

great that is what u need now follow all instructions
1st : go here 3.03 easy up http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1041 follow read me inside
2nd :go here 3.03 easy down http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1042 follow read me inside
ok first use the 3.03 easy up connect ur psp to ur computer follow the instructions on screen.
after u have use the 3.03 easy up go into ur system settings and system info and u should have 3.03 HEN
if u do use the easy down
after that u will be at 1.50 to see if u are go into ur system settings and system info and u should have 1.50
now go here and follow all instructions

O.K Day two on my quest to hack my psp.
Thank you very much for all the info 07anto07. I have managed to updagrade my PSP to 3.03 as you suggested and now I have all the files needed to downgrade from there on from the link you provided!
However, the readme file from the downgrade link did not download properly so I am a bit hesitant to continue on my own uneducated guesses.
In my mem stick I have two new files under the game icon. PSP network config backup and PSP update ver x.yz.
I also have GTA... But how do I continue?

GREAT!
I have found the readme file on the net! I have also successfully downgraded my PSP to ver 1.5!
Thank you Very much for making this so easy... I don't know what I was stressing about! YOU ARE THE MAN 07anto07!
So tell me, is there any way that I will still be able to surf the net on my psp using 1.5 or is this just one of the sacrifices that I gladly accept?

hi if you whant the full functions on psp upgrade to m33 aka dark alex custom firmware im on 3.71-4 put there 3.80 or 3.90 remember USE CUSTOM FIRMWARE to be able to play isos from you memory card end home bres try http://www.psp-hacks.com/ downloads or better http://www.dark-alex.org/ down load the one you whant en READ THE READ ME FILE
