convertxtodvd - the screen seems to be zoomed in and cuts some words off the screen

i dl avi movies and burn them to dvd+R. when i convert and burn them using convertxtodvd the picture quality is off. the screen seems to be zoomed in and cuts some words off the screen. some times it cuts out peoples faces too. the movies plays great..it just seems like the whole movie wont fit on my tv screen. ive used dvdsanta and also had the same problem. could it be the files im dling or my software??

At a rough guess I'd say, because you've used 2 good quality programs to convert and burn the files, it's the AVI files you have down loaded.

use new v3 convertxtodvd and in image resize use safe zone move picture into it...

Neither of those choices is correct. Choose Auto. The AR is determined by the source, not by the user.

Some DVD players default to pan and scan, even when the disk is set to auto. So if you have a widescreen movie it will be zoomed in with the edges cut off.

With ConvertX setting TV Screen to Automatic means a WS source will be encoded at 16:9 and a 4:3 source will be encoded as 4:3, automatically. You don't have to "make sure you have the correct aspect ratio selected 4:3 or 16:9", it will be handled by ConvertX. If you have your DVD players set correctly for your TV's AR the DVD will play correctly on both 16:9 and 4:3 sets, just like a commercial DVD does. The old beta DivxtoDVD had to be fiddled with in the manner of which you speak as it did not set the correct flags, hence my recommending that people do not use it anymore.

im having the same problem as OP and i can't seem to find this image resize option anywhere in ConvertX v3. Any other ideas on how to fix this 'zooming in' problem?

update: found the option for resizing the video into 'safe area'. it's converting now.. hopefully it works.
is 'Safe Area' simply the portion of the picture that displays when the video is played back?

thanks. i've been experimenting with a few different sizes. do you know if it's necessary to resize for all AVI's or just certain ones?

like mystice says i do auto on them mostly
i test apps to know more about them for afterdawn mainly
basically you have to see what comes out, so dont burn to dvdr. test first.

yea Auto seems to be the most practical. im just somewhat of a perfectionist i guess, haha.
but if i am to eventually get the right 'dimensions' after testing out different picture sizes, do you know if those same dimensions would carry over to other AVI files with the same aspect ratio? or does each AVI vary drastically even with the same AR?

thanks mystice. i solved the problem by resetting the size on my dvd player. i set it to wide screen and everything is burn is looking great. i didnt think it would be something so simple. i set convertxtodvd to auto and everything is fine. thanks again.
