As most of you I'm sure already know, the Xbox 360 does not support the MKV or OGM containers directly, and it completely ignores .TS files. With TVersity, transcoding/remuxing can kick in for these types of files but that doesn't help much for users who are playing from a burned DVD, portable player or FAT32 external USB hard drive.
Because it is a common question, particularly when it comes to MKV with AVC content in High Definition, I decided to write up three articles...
Each works from the idea that you can simply extract the elementary streams from MKV, OGM and transport streams and after a little processing, mux them into supported containers like MP4. Of course there are drawbacks, such as the requirement of AAC LC audio in the MP4 container, which is the only supported container that will house H.264 @ HiP L 4.1, and the lack of direct support for MPEG-2 content with the Xbox 360.
Also, nothing can be done to save the subtitles for direct playback without re-encoding the video so I decided to leave that out, I can put that kind of stuff in another guide. Anyway, there was a lot of annoying little processes I had to cover so I'd love some feedback on anything I missed, or suggestions for better methods (talking about direct playback remember, not streaming, thats what TVersity guides are for).
