I just got a 360 about 1 week ago. Has a hitachi 0047DJ drive. I was able to flash it successfully with ixtreme v1.4 and get backups playing (HP DVD+R DL discs burned a 2.4X).
My problem is that if I play for over two hours or so the game will freeze and not do anything. This has only happened to me 3 times but it is very annoying. The games this has happend on are Kane and Lynch and Lost Planet.

so you have had the 360 already open right??? the thermal paste on the heat sink is crap..so if you have the balls to take those crappy x clips and get under the heat sink then i say go buy some artic silver thermal paste and slap some of that on..and also make sure you clean the old paste off.

You can always try a cheap solution first. Here are some things to try.
1. make sure the console is off the carpet with something like CD cases (about 4-5). It will have less surface area touching something to heat up.
2. get a small fan and point it at the unit where it would intake air so it has better airflow.

I have two 360 and have played them for hours on end and have never had them overheat on me.

I have taken apart the 360. I'm going to try your idea first steimy. Since I do have a bunch of cd cases lying around. If that doesn't work I'll look into getting me some thermal paste. Thanks guys, I'll report back with my results.

One simple problem I see... HP dvd+r dl's. HP media is crap. If you have a bad burn, you won't only get the "unreadable disc" error. It can just lock up your 360. I've experienced this first hand back when Saints Row came out. It took 3 Verbs, the last one being burnt at 4x instead of 2.4x, before I realized it.

I could have just adjusted the pot on the laser, but it was easier just burning at 4x.

I ordered some verbatim's from newegg a couple of days ago. They should be here on monday. Only reason I got HP was for testing purposes. Though about the burning speed, I thought you were supposed to only burn at 2.4X for 360 games.

The 360 doesn't seem to freeze up anymore. Since the air intakes are on the bottom would it be better stand the console up vertically? I've only had it on it's side because I've read that it is easier on the laser.

It is personal preference as to how you stand your console. Even though they are designed to stand that way i personally NEVER stand any console vertically. The way discs spin i just think it is better have have them horizontal.

Burned Gears of war on a verbatim (MIS) @2.4X and have not had a freeze up, in combination with steimy's idea.
