EU Commissioner to propose longer copyright term in EU

article published on 15 February, 2008

European internal Market Commissioner Charlie McCreevy has indicated he will propose longer copyright terms for recordings in the European Union, stating he wanted to bring "fairness" into the equation. The record industry has been seeking longer copyright terms in the EU for some time now, complaining that the terms are much shorter than those provided in other major markets. Stupidly long copywrite is coming to europe then, ah well lets just kill creativity from building on great ideas for lets see, 100years. if this gets passed its the most retarded law ever, you can sort of expect it in the USA where the Government is controlled by the Lobby, corporations and backhanders, and an excepting populous but not here in europe please.

A Fair(y) Use Tale. Funny look at copywrite.

Hmmm, if the recording industry is after equity with other markets then why doesn't it try to convince those other markets to reduce copyright to 50 years?

If monies collected are for the musician then why not have a body in each market that collects on behalf of the musician and holds that money until the musician makes provable application for it?

The trick would be finding and/or setting up the right body because we sure as hell couldn't trust the private sector US recording and film industry. Normally i wouldn't trust the government either, but we need an agency that is not paid for scalps collected.

Having a longer copyright term does not solve piracy issues.
