Well it seems that the war is pretty much over with the recent news, so my question is what's gonna happen now?

I told you so.

It will take awhile but once the market starts to switch over to the new HD format PS3 sales will climb by quite a bit. But you wont see it immediately as most of the market is still satisfied with DVD technology for the most part.

But for now lets gloat because we wont be able to for long, so... BWAHAHAHAHAHA! BWA! BWA! BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

I dont mean to be rude, but i have yet to find somewhere that says Blu-Ray has won,it wont loose because of the PS3,but i dont think the "war" is over just yet.

I do feel sorry for all the people who bought into the HD-DVD market and i am glad that Sony will eventualy win a Soft Media "war"(they lost all the other ones).

Also i would like it if all the companies got together and agreed on ONE media format.

It's already won and all sign points to it already has. All everyone is waiting for is the headline "Toshiba drops HD DVD, starts production on Toshiba brand Blu Ray players." I am glad that the format war is all but declared over and yes I also feel bad for the early adopters of HD DVD players.

will XBOX360 games still be manufactured with HD-DVD? it cant run anything else. so HD-DVD's will still be used in this manner, but apparently no where else.

HD-DVD is now the Sega Dreamcast of the new millenium. :)

XBOX 360 games are on regular DVD-9 discs, you have to buy the HD-DVD addon to play HD-DVD movies, but that's all it will play...

Lordofuo the DVD-9 movie and game disc are exactly the same, they both have the same capacity which is about 8.5gb.

Developers are having a hard time fitting games on DL DVDs. So what does this say for Microsofts next generation of systems since I don't see it likely that the BDA will allow Microsoft to have Blu-Ray rights. Haha Microsoft.

Sony would give up making millions from royalities by not licensing bd to MS?? I wouldn't bet on that. These are multi-billion dollar corporations, not a couple of kids fighting over who's dad is tougher just to say "I told you so". They're number one goal is profit. Not licensing wouldn't make any since.

I agree with bhetrick. If sony had the chance to let microsoft use their media for their game systems they would jump on it. Not only would they make millions as mentioned, it would be the ultimate slap in the face as far as the war between the 2 companies goes. I for one would love to see it happen. lol

I told you so.

and, yes, i think i remember a time when it was a little more money. (discs)

the players went down FOR SURE.

and they are going to have to lower a little more, since the HD-DVD players are going to be dropping price like crazy.

Look for a BluRay player for the Xbox360 in the near future LOL! Really the only way, other than downloading straight to hard drive. In that case they'd have to create 200gb hard drives for the box.

But yea im sure once HD-DVD is obliterated, people will be much less confused as what to buy. So prices of BluRay will be dropping shortly.

Yes, that's all great if the 360 does indeed get a Blu-ray add-on... But will that mean that the games will utilize this media or will it simply mean you can watch Blu-ray movies through a XBOX 360?

I don't think Sony would give Microsoft the rights to use Blu-ray for their game media. That is something I believe Sony would want to hold as a trump card against the 360 from a marketing stand point. However, I do agree with the other posts stating that any successful business is profit driven, so if given half a chance Sony would certainly license Blu-ray as a 360 add-on for movie purposes only. After all... That was all the HD-DVD add-on was capable of anyway.

That gets me thinking... Why didn't Toshiba and Microsoft form some sort of agreement where for Microsoft to offer the HD-DVD add-on, they would also be allowed to release games on this media? I don't know if my instincts are right here but I believe that would have done a lot for the HD-DVD camp. Think about it... A hot new game is released on the XBOX 360 on HD-DVD media (take Halo 4 for example). This forces 360 owners to purchase the add-on in order to play the game. They have the add-on now, so they think what the hell I might as well get some HD-DVD movies etc. etc..

My opinion is that is where Sony really had the master plan. At the end of the day Blu-ray as an optical media format could never fail. Sony was in a win/win situation no matter what happened. If indeed Blu-ray did fail as the next generation movie format, Sony still had many years of development to look forward to in the PS3. All the games would still be pressed on Blu-ray discs. If we take the amount of PS2 games available today as any indication of what the future for the PS3 will bring, then you will see where I am coming from. Sure the gaming market is a much smaller minority compared to the film industry but it's still much better to be left with this market than none at all.

Games can't be played from an add-on. It was reported back when the add-on was released that it wouldn't function for gameplay... something about not being able to properly utilize the memory.

As for Sony not sharing their technoligy, it would end up and court and Sony would end up being forced to share... exactly like how MS was sued over Windows.

Sounds perplexing, care to elaborate a bit further on both?

Pretty sure Sony owns only a small part of the Bluray format. There are many companies invested in it. And by selling a Bluray player to an Xbox 360 owner, thats X amount of dollars that goes directly to Sony. So Im sure they wont have a problem supplying xbox with an addon. In fact they are probably already working on one.

bhetrick, I didn't say Sony wouldn't allow the Blu-ray add-on. I said that my opinion is they wouldn't allow it to be used for game media. Which you have just stated isn't possible so that makes what I was saying redundant anyway.
