Same thing happened to me. The square nut goes to the battery door, you should be able to figure out exactly where when you re-assemble your wii. I used a 15 watt iron with .022 dia solder and things went fine.

ok where theres failure theres SUCCESS! screwed up the first wii(belonged to me) managed to get it right w/my bud's board. anyone know where i can get a new board and for roughly how much? fyi i bought a "bernzomatic" heat iron-butane powered much easier to work with than ur standard iron the "cone" has a larger surface yet narrower end. it does not state the wattage but operates on 4 dif. settings (1-4) 2 worked well for me thnx for the info wtc05

I dont have a lot of soldering experience, but I have to ask. How is it even humanly possible to mod the wii? I havn't bought one yet, but in preperation for it I decided to practice soldering ide cable wires to similar looking chips on an old dvdrom I had lying around. The pins on the drive chip are so small it's pretty much impossible for me solder this.

I'm assuming I need to get a really powerful magnifiying glass and a 1/64th inch needle bit to have any hope of succeding. The solder points are just so incredibly small. :(

Any tips on how you managed to get the wires on the proper spots without fucking it up would be greatly appreciated.

tin your wire, then heat up the pad (or other location) and touch the tinned wire to it. the solder should bind. Remove the soldering iron. Always remember to use a low wattage (I use 15W) soldering iron, and silver-core solder (it has a low melting point)
