sky+ box problem not recording at all.

hi there anybody help me witha broken sky+ box it all works for channels etc but when it comes to using the sky+ feature (recording rewinding etc ) it says theresd a problem and to ring sky. and when i rung sky its going to cos me 60 just for them to come out to have a look is there amnyway that i can insert the hard drive onto my pc and somehow fix it or restore it to work again ?
any help is appreiated
