Hello. I am wondering if there is a way to play these kinds of videos on my TV without having to go through the hellacious process of attempting to convert and burn to DVD format. I'm getting a new computer which will have dual 512MB Nvidia GeForce 8800GTSs, which I believe have TV video outlets. Is this the only solution? Also, I don't have an S-Video output either.

Depending on the capabilities of your DVD player, it's not the only way, but it might be the easiest. Although I really don't know for sure. My DVD player can play .avi's off of data DVD's, but not all DVD players can do that.

Sorry I can't offer any other ideas.

The best media player for Tv's is an "Original" Xbox modded and running "Xbox Media Center". I have never ran across anything that will not play on it.

Yes, and if you happen to have an Xbox 360 you can use media player 10 or windows media center to stream videos to your xbox to play through your tv. i do that and it works fine. (as far as i know it supports avi and other windows certified video types, which means it wont run real media. i dont think it will run quicktime either)

Is that an XBOX or XBOX 360?
EDIT: NVM, I read the post again, read the "Original"...:~) Softmodded will work as well as the hardmodded does? never touched an XBOX in my life, just thinking of getting some cheapo on ebay and use it to play videos from my PC.

EDIT2: been reading some more stuff about XBOX...can you play videos from an external storage device( memory stick, HDD), or just by burning the videos as data to a DVD/CD?

I did some more reading and it seems that indeed, it XBMC will indeed play about anything, including RMVB. Havin 100+ of those files, now I really need to get an XBOX, tired of converting or watching on PC!!
