do ya'll think that if the hd-dvd format dies, microsoft might purchase (or retain, im not sure) the rights to use hd-dvd as a game medium. it seems like the licensing costs would be really cheap that way and be a good way to combat the other systems hi-capacity optical media.. on the other hand manufacturing costs to keep hd-dvds in production might go way up & yes, im aware that microsoft said they would not utilize optical media other than dvd-9 ( any maybe dvd-5; again, not sure)

but maybe in the future?

Maybe in a future system but I do not think we would see it for the 360. Not enough HD DVD add-ons were sold, and releasing a new version of the 360 with it built in would alienate way too many consumers. I could also see them just letting the format die and switching to bluray if it becomes the standard as dvd did. And remember, nothing Microsoft says is ever true. Also, while it would be cheap to retain the rights, I wold see it being very expensive to produce the hardware if the parts are not in high supply. Just a thought.
