Which dvd drive to i buy to replace that crappy drive microsoft put in the XBOX? i called microsoft and they want $100 u.s. dollars to fix the drive. sh%t for $149.00 i can buy a complete unit. Please help me out!!!!!!!

look on ebay, you can get a thomson drive for around $50, a modded 616 samsung for about $120, or a samsung sdg-605 xbox dvd drive for around $110 (samsung drives are best for reading media ie cdr)

This is a really weird thought but could you actually put a dvd burner in the XBox I have never thought of that,it could work though knowing that it can read dvd's and it could actually burn dvds if someone actually worked on it.

You cannot install a burner into the xbox unless you did a Samsung type mod to it but no idea how, then you need some software savvy guy to write the code to use it, perhaps the guy that made boXplorer. Chances are that this will never happen, I did here that you could use linix and a usb adaptor and use a USB DVD external recorder.

My xbox DVD-rom is on its last leg so I ordered the Samsung SDG-605, darn thing cost me $130 with shipping, hope its worth it!

I have a Sony DRU-500 dvd burner that is external could this work like you said it could work and might not work but I would still have to buy the samsung drive right.

You would have to see if there is a linix driver for that drive then perhaps it is possible, but I don?t know how to set it up as I have never used linix before.
