Just a simple question. Is it possible to back up copied games with a regular DVD burner or does it require a LG burner to do so?

Use Imgburn to copy the backup disk.

im somewhat new @ this but lets see ... if you are ripping a game for the first time then yes you need a lg burner, winrar and a burning software like the one stated above or-my choice- nero. if the game is a back-up and you want to make a back up of the back-up then img. burn or nero etc. is all u need.if its a torrent then chances are you will have to convert it using winrar then burn using already mentioned software *if its choice #1 u only need the to rip the game when burning the image any other burner will work fine pioneer etc.this helps save the "life" of the lens on the lg* remember it is illegal to duplicate games and i do not condone piracy however if im not mistaking youre allowed 1 back-up of any media you own/have purchased
