My Xbox 360 has finally given up the ghost, as of 5:30 gmt on the 19th feb she bowed out with the RROD.

(Hum "The Six Million Dollar Man" theme tune)
"We can rebuild her, we have the technology, but I don't want to spend a lot of money"

So I've been looking around intently for the fix for the dreaded RROD, there are several variations and combinations I've been seeing:
1. Arctic silver thermal paste
2. A clamp replacement
3. The penny trick
4. Better fans
5. More fans

So heres what I have planned:

I'm going to get a Talismoon Whisper Max 360 or just a regular Talismoon Whisper fan any advice.

I'm also getting an additional fan (Recommendations) that I'm going to fit into the case wall, cut a nice hole with a dremil.

I'm going to replace the heat sink compound with Arctic silver 5 thermal paste.

I'm going to use Tortuga's X-clamp Replacement method hopefully no need for a heatgun (don't own one and don't fancy it).

Also I'm going to do some of the other things he talks about, put some spacers on top of the GPU chip and use tape to better seal the fan duct to the heatsinks.

The penny trick, is this really just putting a penny under each marsh mellow thing or have I missed somthing?

Also considering mounting the disk drive externally, and putting a whopping big fan on the GPU heatsink.

Has anyone done some of this got any advice? and has anyone tried other things that they would recommend?

Thanks allot guys I know you dread seeing these RROD threads, but I hope you can see I've done some reading and so won't get as bad an ear bashing.

The latter, apparently when I was told to use a razor blade on the M$ sticker they meant to peel it off not slice through the middle...jk

So anything to add or recommend to my repair attempt?

I've ordered my Talismoon Whisper Max 360 and additional fan (standard case fan), I already have Arctic silver 5 and a tap and die set in work.

So I'm waiting for the stuff to arrive and I'll give it a go.

the only thing i would suggest is looking withing the first 2-4 pages of this forum, there was another post about fixing RROD with x-clamp, penny trick etc, and check it out, it was rather long and filled with several different ideas and methods, could be some info in it for ya.

Or, you can order another warranty seal off of Ebay like I did and send it in to M$. I fudged up my seal when I initially modded my 360 so I tried to fix my RROD with the x-clamp-fix but it went back to RROD a few days later. So I put the original x clamp back in, ordered a seal off Ebay and sent it in. You may fix the RROD for a few days or a few weeks but the inevitable will happen over and over.
