I have trying to work the software for the wiikey for many days now.
I was hoping all the experts on this forum can help.

I first started by soldering my wiikey onto my wii, an early model, using the long-wire method. With little experience and a lot of trial and error I ended up lifting off 2 of the pads. This didn't affect reading original wii and gc games so I switched my wii with my friend's (also an early model) and resoldered my wiikey onto the new wii using kynar wire. I'm pretty confident in my soldering job for the new wii but none of the software cd's worked. I first burned all of them using nero on 8x Memorex dvd-r's. So I burned gcos/original 1.9b update, gcos/original config1.3, gcos/original config1.2, and gcos/original 1.9b recovery (all of them were filechopped to GC disc size).

My wii is updated to 3.1u firmware. I read that the 3.1u update disables the wiikey so that is why the game No More Heroes isn't working. (I also tried SSBB but that wouldn't work in the first place because of the default region setting) All of the originals work, both gc and wii but backups and software didn't.

I was talking with someone that had already installed a wiikey and they said that nero isn't good software to use and also memorex isn't a good dvd-r company but verbatim would be better. So I went and bought some verbatim 16x DVD-Rs and reburnt almost everything using CloneCD this time at 4x speed. So I burnt gcos/original 1.9b update, gcos/original 1.9g beta update, and gcos/original config 1.3 (again all of them were filechopped). Unfortunately, none of them worked :(

I know that I have an authentic wiikey because it came with the hologram. I've pretty much run out of options :'(.

Can anyone help me with this problem?

Thanks for any help that you can offer.

Post a pic of your install so we can see if you installed it properly.

Go HERE for Wiikey resources.

I would use IMGBurn rather then CnoneCD to burn stuff.

Try doubling up the wire for ground and VCC.

1 Strand of 30(AWG) for those may not be enough.

Plus shorten the wires they seem a bit long to me.

Yes they are WAY too long. Here are examples of installs I have done-

Try to keep the wire length around that.

It is not necessary to double the wire for the power and ground but you can for reassurance.

couple of points here. First of all, as was previously said, don't use memorex, they are crap. It's good that you changed your media. Secondly, use Imgburn for all your wii needs. It's free and you can't mess it up by burning it as data, it will only burn images. Lastly, why are you filechopping all your stuff? Just burn the iso for your region using IMGburn and away you go. No need to mess with it. Download the config disc, burn it with imgburn on good media (I use only SONY because of their organic dye) and then pop it into the wii. I think you are over complicating everything.

The last point that I would make, (and people on here know how strongly I feel about this) I never use wires on wiikey installs and I've done more than I can count. The chip was designed to be quicksoldered onto the pcb board. It's not hard to do and you're sure to get a solid connection every time.

Thats my 2 cents and I've done a tone of wii modding.
