Had my xbox 360 for two weeks and killed it!! I was flashing the firmare on the dvd drive and the computer reset as it was erasing, using the iprep tool in ntfdos.....now my ata just hangs and dont detect the dvd rom where it did b4, and the bottom right ring is red and get an error 35 on screen. Im pretty sure ive killed it but how do you sort it without sending it off for repair! its a benq vad 6038 drive.
also iprep didnt save orig.bin so i dont have the drive key.
any suggestions would be nice...

Get a hold of another BenQ drive and hotswap them. That's the only way I know to fix your issue.

It should have saved a copy before it erased. Why would it not save a copy in the backup folder on the usb/floopy? It dumps then it erases check the backup folder.

An easy way that i've found to flash benq drives is with dosflash 1.3 beta using dosflash32 and on board sata. even if you have a bad flash, you can still recover. I've flash a number of benq 6038 and samsung drives using this method. You can also try the via 6421 sata card, i've used that also. Give either method a try using dos flash. Your drive is not dead. it can be recovered.
