Simple solution: Don't click on any thread with HD DVD or BluRay in the title.

Will there ever be a day where we will be able to rip Blueray and burn them on BDR? I dont want to jump to a new format if I ccan't be able to back it up.

Well I remember the bad old days when it was impossible to rip dvd until Norwegian John came along and now look at us ! ;)
granted the stakes are higher and more difficult now but the technology that makes copying more difficult also lends itself to those who work to defeat/circumvent it. In human history what one man invents another can copy - just takes time.

One thing I don't understand about the Onkyo statement is this

One thing I don't understand about the Onkyo statement is this

I would suspect that they are talking about playback issues with certain discs. Doing firmware upgrades that allow the users to play the last of the HDDVD discs that are released (including the interactive features).

Well the upside to this is the fact that although making the players have stopped the support of their older hd dvd players will continue and that is a wise and mature move on Onkyo's side. Well done.
