I have a NTSC-J Wii pre modded with wiikey and the latest firmware and the shop keeper said that you cant play the new real games such as ssbb with a modded console. Is this true or is he trying to make me buy a new console?

You can play. If your console is version 3.1, all you have to do is apply the same update off the SSBB-J disc and play from there. If you directly update it from DVD you will get dual channels, but who cares?

If you don't want that, you can always do the 15% trick, which I am sure you can find throughout the site.
