Hi,

Quick question.. I'm building a PS2 (SCPH-30001) into my car and I would like to bypass its power supply. Basically I think converting the car's 12vdc power with an inverter to 120vac and then back to 12vdc by the power supply is stupid, so I would like to skip that step.

So, here's the question.. how should I do that? I know the power supply outputs 12v (and possibly 5v as well? I forget), so would it be enough to just get a 12v voltage regulator (and a 5v one too, if needed) capable of handling the required current?

I know the ps2's power supply does a lot more than just rectify the 12vac to dc and step it down, but basically I'm not sure if doing what I said above would be enough.

Input?

Thanks.

Frankly I don't see why not. According to a few sites out there, the old PS2s use 78 watts So since your PS2 uses 12 volts (I'm taking your word for that) that'll be about 6.5-6.6 amps for you. Shouldn't blow up any fuses, as far as I know. A multimeter/voltmeter thing is your best friend for this :P

GENERATION 20: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation. Social experiment.

Yeah, I probed the pins on the PSU and got 12v, nothing else. My friend showed me how to build an LC filter, so I did that and it seems to work fine. :)
