I am using swap magic 3.6 on a slim with the moded flip cover. I am using DVD-R Memorex 16 X burning at 1x in DVD decryter. I am downloading torrent files and copying the ISO over. Some work and then they wont work again. Just freeze up or skip. For some reason even though I set decryter to 1x it still burns at 5.9X. Any idea, should I use +R media?
Possible bad downloads? PS2 laser going bad?

First of all you should switch over to some better quality media (taiyo yuden, verbatim, sony's). People usually have more succes with -R's than with +R's so I would stick with -R's. Then I would suggest downloading Imgburn, which is the successor to DVD Decrypter.
Burning at 1X is not necessary, 4X or 8X is fine. Preferably 4X.
If your games still freeze/skip I would then look into the bad downloads/bad laser option.

Thank you, I will try some Sony discs possibly today. I'll follow up.
Any idea why the 1x option is there yet never burns at that speed? Is it possible the DVD media will not write at that? I have a memorex double layer 16x + R -R dvd burner.
Hey thanks again.

Imgburn tells you what write speeds are supported on the disc loaded. DVD Decrypter should tell you as well. When a disc say 16X it usually means that 16X is the fastest speed at which you can burn.
Ex. All the sony dvd-r's I've burned to say 16X but Imgburn will only let me burn to them at 4X, 8X, or 16X. This is most likely the reason why you haven't been able to burn at 1X.

Thanks, that made good sense. I just got some Sony -R's. I'm trying it out now. Lowest supported speed was 6X I'm burning at that. Will follow up with results.

The Sony's worked. I had one coaster so far out of six burns. Some times video will skip on GOD of WAR but it works through it. It almost seems like the burned discs spin faster.
The lowest speed my sony's support is 6X. Should I still be trying to burn at 1X or 4X regardless of what it says?
Thanks.

Don't do that. That may be the reason why you were having problems with your back ups in the first place. burning at low speeds can cause problems when playing a backup. best burn at around 12x if your max is 16x.

I've always burned at 4X and never had any playback issues. Though on my cousin's slimeline GTA:SA wouldn't work when burned at 4X, I decided to burn it at 16X and it worked. I guess it is just a matter as to what your ps2 prefers...

I burned at the 12X. My load times were much faster and I got no errors at all. Thank you.
Sony DVD - R 16X with accucore.
Burning on a Memorex 16X duel layer RW burner.
PS2 slim swap magic 3.6
Games burned at 12X are perfect and as close to ps2 load times I have seen since I started.

you are welcome. and remember this. most media will not burn best at its rated speed. then burning media too low may also spit out errors. as a rule of thumb, you should burn media at either half or 3/4 its rated speed depending on the media brand and especially your ps2/pstwo.

The question I have is I also have Memorex 16x dvd-r disc. And I am having the skipping problems to. So I found this thread so I can tell it is most likely the dvd media. I see up above they say to get Sony DVD-R 16x disc. I have decided to do that since seems like it will work question I have are these the disc you where talking about?

Also remember to burn witht the 16X-R sony's at 12X in DVD decryter. Worked perfect for me. My Memorex discs just skipped way to much. Paying for good Media is worth it. ;)

Have you had any problem with those?
Like any skipping or like freezing or they locking up.
Because that is the main problem I am having. The intros of the game like skip or animations in the game just freeze or the loads take forever. Had you had any of these problems with those disc?

Never had any problems with these discs. Good media + low burn speeds have always produced excellent results for me.

Wit the sony's with (accucore) Whatever that is. I am getting clean burns. I even redid some that were skipping.
What I am looking for now is a PAL to NTSC patch. My system is NTSC. ;)
