Hi all,

I recently bought an Elite with the Falcon mobo. Before testing it (stupid me) I flashed the BenQ with 1.41 iXtreme (12x).

I tested a Guitar Hero 3 backup for 5 minutes that worked perfectly. I was playing an ORIGINAL Rock Band DVD for about 3-4 hours when the console started freezing.

I've gotten the freezes during the dashboard as well, but I haven't had time to see if it will freeze WITHOUT a DVD in the drive.

I've been reading as many freezing posts as I can but I wanted to ask for some advice...

Should I try re-seating the heat sinks without the X Clamps? http://www.danhrules.co.uk/3rlod/

Should I try re-flashing the BenQ to iXtreme1.41 2x?

Unfortunately I do not have any other Xboxes to try out swapping drives and/or power supplies =(

Thanks for the help!

use your benorig and try to flash back to original and play for a day or two and see what you come up with.

Well, after 3-4 hours the system may get a bit heated up. They tend to do that with marathon gamers.

Have you tried giving it extra air flow with a fan, and making sure it is elevated off of the floor so the vents are clear to get air? Also never put the console in a closed area like a media center or cabinet.

It seems like the console was in a very open area and did not feel hot to touch. The metal surrounding the intake for the fans was warm, but I think that's to be expected. I will try to prop it up on something though and make sure it has ample airflow.

I'm going to see if I can get it to freeze without a DVD in the drive. If it does, I will try the X Clamp mod. If it doesn't, I will try to reflash the orig.bin and see what happens.

Any other ideas?

I fixed my buddies last night with just replacing the thermal paste with AS5 and adding 1 penny per "marshmellow" pad. It hadn't been played in about a week but when he turned it on it froze in the middle of a game. Upon turning it back on, 3 red lights. After the fix, I have tested it for an hour and a half last night and about 2 hours so far today without any issues.

While I like to cover all the basis while I am in there (customers 360's), he didn't want me to do the xclamp replacement at this time since I fixed my stepsons 360 this way as well and it's been running trouble free for 2 months now. So far so good on his as well.

Just a suggestion on the method of xclamp repair method:

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=618278

This method takes out all the "trial and error" of the washers and such.It has worked great for me so far on the 360's I have fixed for other people. Also of note, I have personally never had to overheat the 360 or heat gun it.

Edit: I feel that it all depends on how early you catch the freezing/ring of death. I also feel that by overheating it, it will just get harder to fix. But that's just me.

Tyvm! I'll take a look at this.

Also, what do you mean by, "adding 1 penny per "marshmellow" pad" ?

Take a look here: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=606431

As I said, I only used 1 penny per pad.

Well, returning it works too I guess. :)

I was under the assumption that it may have been used. Never thought that it was returnable.

Then again, it's just my nature of thinking as I repair them on a regular basis. Most are not returnable.

Glad all is well for you. :)
