Hey guys, it's been awhile since I've come on here, i think my account got deleted it's been so long, hehe. I just got a slim about a week ago. I've been doing alot of research for quite some time on custom firmware and homebrews and the how to's. I've been researching so much now that all of this custom firmware is getting very confusing. I want to install CFW on my psp slim, but i want to make sure i'm doing it correctly. My current firmware out of the box is 3.80. Can I go from that to the latest cfw? If someone would be kind enough to point me in the right direction or post a step by step guide, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Well, first of all you'll need to use the "Pandora battery" and "Magic memory stick" hack to install a custom firmware :)
HERE is a guide to install a cfw if you do not have another PSP with a custom firmware :)
HERE is a guide to install a cfw if you do have another PSP with a custom firmware :)
After that, you can install a custom firmware of your choice using THIS guide :)
No need to follow the "update to 3.52m33 and 3.71m33" firmwares :)
Juz download the 3.71m33-4 update and update your PSP or if you want to, you can follow the 3.90m33 update method :)

Thanks for the help. My question is, can i just go from 3.80 official to the 3.90 custom firmware (3.90m33-?)? I won't need to go down to 3.70m33 or what not? Also, is there a difference between the datel tool battery and the pandora?

will i need to add on the kernal or skype? So i wont have to downgrade and work up to the 3.90m33? Just go from 3.80 official straight to 3.90m33-? Or since i have official 3.80 do i need to instal the 3.80m33 cf? Is the 3.90m33 the latest and greatest?

Unfortunately not
YOu'll need to downgrade using a Pandora Battery and Magic Memory Stick, then upgrade again to CFW

Either to 1.50, or some Pandora menus allow you to go directly to 3.71 M33 and higher, like the one in the link provided couple of posts up

I'm sorry, I guess I'm still a little confused. So I can't go from 3.80 official straight to 3.90m33- cf using the above guides? I have to downgrade first, to 3.71m33 using the above guides, then from there to 3.90m33?

okay, i think i might get it now, please correct me if i am wrong. I currently have the official 3.80 firmware on my psp slim. In order to get the latest cutom firmware 3.90 m33- then I need to get the datel tool battery, install those files from the above guide on my memory stick and downgrade my official firmware from 3.80 to the custom 3.71m33. Then from there I can update to whatever custom firmware I want, including the 3.90 m33-, correct? My only question is, once I have up upgraded to the 3.90 m33 firmware that I want, how do I go about upgrading it again once there is a new one released? Also, what is the kernal and skype terms I keep hearing about? Thanks guys! You're awesome!

Don't worry about the 1.5 kernal cause the slim doesn't support it. It is used to run original homebrew apps for the phat. Time machine is for the slims to run homebrew but you can learn about that later. Skype is the new integrated phone for the psp and same as go messenger. Right now let's get you to CFW. Yes you need to get your hands on a datel or pandoras battery then install via the guide on creating a magic memory stick. Once your at cfw then it's just a matter of updating to the latest CFW's. When there are new update's available you can go Here and download them or just use the simple update from your XMB as the new CFW updates right from Dark Alex's site.

XMB is the is the menu when you turn on your psp. Time machine is a program developed by Dark Alex that enables slim psp's to play homebrew apps made for the 1.5 kernel.

After you have custom firmware go HERE and download the Timemachine. There's a readme in the file and install instructions.
