Two questions:
1) What region is your console? If its a US console then updating with an update from a US game shouldnt hurt it.
2) Are you sure you have the 3.2 firmware? If a later firmware is already installed than the one on the game disk the update on the disk shouldnt run.
Either way. There are not yet any updates that effect modchips and, even if there were, I dont think theres any way to rollback the firmware. Whatever problems you're having with backups are probably unrelated to the update.

Formatting the memory wont help. The firmware isnt stored in the system memory.
Exactly what problems are you having? You say you're having trouble running backups. So they only work sometimes? Sounds like a problem with the chip, not the wii. But just for the hell of it connect to the internet and try DLing the 3.2 firmware again.

I dunno what the problem is but I'm pretty sure that the update isnt the problem. Short of reloading the wiikey firmware and re-running the 3.2 wii update I'm not sure what to suggest. Anyone else have any ideas of things to check?

Prolly just a media problem - I've read loads of these posts and I think that some wiis on earlier firmware with the earlier wiikey firmware were more tolerant of some backups but not anymore when they got updated.

Dude, stop whining. It's probably the cheapo discs you're using. I've updated my Wii with the Metroid update and I'm on 3.2. Everything works normally.

Verbatum is the best brand, I've had good luck with memorex as well.
Also only burn at 4x, and use imgburn instead of nero or any other programs.

Are you joking? I would never recommend memorex! Thats about the cheapest, crappiest brand that they make next to store brand. That junk almost never works. You would be the first that I've seen to actually claim that memorex works for wii.

Maybe I just had a good batch of them or something, but I just finished up a spindle of memorex DVD+R's a few weeks ago and out of 50 I only got 4 - 5 coasters. And none of the bad burns were wii games either, just movies and TV shows.

I also use memorex flawlessy.
The only read error I've ever had is from the original Wii fit, never from a backup.
