It plays on pc but not dvd player. I get an error message "DISC ERROR PLAYBACK FEATURE MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE ON THE DISC" .Is there something I can do to make it play or is there a file missing I'm just out of luck?

I can't imagine it would write a disk that did not have all the files required to play on a standalone player.

As a cross check and to verify that all the files are present, download DVD Shrink.
Install it and run it.
Click 'Open Disc' and (with your burned DVD in the PC)let 'Shrink load the files from the disk.
If it loads them without fuss, then you have a compliant DVD.

Only things that comes to mind is that the standalone player doesn't like the disk format.
By that I mean that perhaps you burned it on a DVD+R and the player only takes DVD-R, that information should be in the manual that came with the standalone DVD player.

You could also verify that the disk is being burned at a moderate speed (4x) and you are using reliable disks (Verbatim brand).

Do a search for dvdidentifier and download it. Run one of those discs in it, copy and paste the results here. I'm curious to what those discs code out (who makes them) as.
