You list how to backup games that I already own but how about getting games downloaded from torrents, can I use any burner and any type of DVD-R disk then?

Thx

Through some searches I found this:

It does not matter what burner you use, as long as it works well. I use an old Lite-On 1633S that I got free after rebate about 4 years ago. What's more important is the blank media. Low quality media usually gives low quality burns no matter what drive you use.

Here are the top five DVD writers though:

1 Samsung SH-S203B
2 Pioneer DVR-112D
3 LG GSA-H62N
4 Pioneer DVR-112
5 Lite-On LH-20A1P

I have the #3 burner so I guess I'm safe. ;)

Most burners are ok - use Verbatim DVD-R disks and burn at 4x speed with imgburn. Other disks can work as well but imho Verbatim are the most reliable.

I have a boat load of Maxell's DVD-R's. Always loved the quality of how music plays on them. Have you tried these?

I never burn CDs or DVDs unless I have to. I play music or movies directly or streamed from hard drives or the portable device I'm carrying. Even my retail music CDs are all ripped and stored away as well as all my vinyl.

I hadn't burned many disks for years until I got the wiikey and I've tried a few different disks. Verbatim is the only one I've come across that has given a successful burn with every game and whilst I know ppl have success with other brands, I've never actually read of anyone having problems with Verbatim yet - no doubt someone will reply now and tell me how many Verbatim coasters they made... LOL

I'm buying the WiiKey sometime over the next month or so and installing it for my nephew. I'll definitely post back my results with the Maxell's. If they don't work I'd gladly switch over to the Verbatim's.

Thx guys

Fulton if you are not experienced in soldering and taking apart your wii I would suggest finding a modder in your area who will do it for you. Sometimes they supply the chip. IF you want to buy one modchipstore.com is pretty good. Also some modders don't do the newer versions of the wii.
