I have been working on getting my buddy a ms-25 with a CF on it. I finally did it and I used the toolbox to validate the key that I injected (was from a hitachi). I'm using the Ixtreme 5.2 CF and his key is correct.
Now, this is where it gets weird. I put his drive into my 360 console. It shouldn't work right? WELL, it does work! I played a dvd with it I played an audio cd with it, but when I put in a game disk it says "Please put this disk into a xbox 360 to play".
So does the key handshake between the disk,dvd-rom, mobo only happen when a game is being played?
I extracted the firmware from his drive and double checked it to make sure I didn't accidently have my key in there. NOPE! it's his key and I triple checked everything.
Is this normal?
I always thought that if the key was not the same you couldn't use the dvd-rom in your 360. Well, I come to find out that you can get any dvd-rom and stick it in any 360 console and it will play anything OTHER THAN games.
Did you spoof the firmware to report back as the Hitachi (as this was the original DVD-ROM)?
If not, that's possibly your problem.
Open the hacked firmware with FW toolbox, make sure the key is the same from the original.bin and spoof the FW to the correct Hitachi model. Re-flash and try again.
Yeah that is the deal.. if you dont have the right key then you cant boot any games. You end up with a expensive dvd player :P The code is only checked when a games wants to boot.
Ok, so this will not work in my buddies 360 that had a hitachi drive in it if I only spoofed the drive as a ms25, but used his key?
Do I have to spoof the ms25 firmware as a Hitachi for it to work in his 360?
megaman22, Are you saying that this drive will work in my buddies 360 because the key is correct, even though I do not have it spoofed as a Hitachi drive? (it is a ms25 drive, with CF and a hitachi key)

If you're using it in his 360, you must spoof it to the correct version of drive that you replaced with the key from the old drive. Same goes if you intend to use it in yours.
