Hi,
How long do you think the Wii can last for.
Its graphics and processing power are so poor in todays market.
Soon PS3 and 360 will be offering similar game play adaptors and the Wii will die off. It wont compete because of its obviously poor power.
Agree or Not, Discuss.
Please disuss in the link in sig too, thanks.

The wii will continue to do well because nintendo can afford to keep the price far lower than either other next-gen console can hope to go. Even if the 360 lowered its price to only $200 (doubtful as microsoft is just now starting to turn a profit on it) the wii could drop to $150 and still be turning a profit.

In addition to that the wii will continue to be popular with the non-hardcore gamer group. Nintendo has tapped into a HUGE new market with the both wii and the DS, and these are people who arent about to run out and buy another console because of big budget games like halo.

Also, I dont know how many times I've said this but good games are not all about graphics (Look at crysis. Unbeleivable graphics but the gameplay was nothing new and the storyline was so bad I couldnt even get through it) Of the 3 last generation consoles the ps2 had by far the lowest graphical power, far less than the gamecube. When you look at some of their early games the cube had alot going for it. Viewtiful Joe, Resident Evil 4, Star Wars Rogue Squadren, plus the first party games. But it didnt sell well, 3rd party developers moved away and ported most of the worthwhile games to the ps2.

Which brings me to my last point, as I've been saying for the last year, the staying power of a console is about 3rd party developers. Sure SMG and SSBB will move a TON of consoles, but nintendo cant rely on the first party games forever. They've done alot to bring the developers back, however the developers thus far have not been bringing their best to the table. Theres been a few gems like Zach and Wiki, No More Heros and the oddly addicting Endless Ocean, but the vast majority of 3rd party support for the wii has been shovelware. Worse, much of it has been older ps2 shovelware thats been ported over by developers looking to make a quick buck so they can spend more on their expensive ps3 and 360 titles.

In my book, thats whats going to hurt the wii more than any graphical lacking. If developers dont take the console seriously then it will lose much of its appeal. It will never fall like the gamecube did however, because they have the whole market of casual gamers at their disposial.

Thats my 2 cents anyway. And listen to LOCOENG before u get in trouble over that link.

Nintendo was always about gameplay and fun. Look at Zelda Twilight Princess, how long is it to beat the game? About 50-60 Hours if you dont do the side missions. I cant think of a game that offers that type of gameplay. As far as graphs, Nintendo proves that it is not need. The Nintendo DS graph are only sightly better than the SNES and yet the DS sold 65 million compare to the PSP 25 million. Graphics is not the answer.

tbh - I don't care... The Wii good for the money at this time and the price will be adjusted accordingly if necessary. Also there are plenty of really good quality titles that are fun to play. I don't look on the Wii as summat I will keep forever just like I didn't with my megadrive or PS1 (though I still play my old favs of those on emulators).. or my previous PCs. We outgrow stuff. However, the one thing the Wii seems to have over the other consoles is a massive attraction to gamers across all age groups. At Christmas this year everybody was playing Wii in my house - old and young all together. They have never done that with any other console. So I'd say for a lot of ppl the Wii could last a lifetime... who knows? I don't think it's simply down to motion sensing control - it's down to game design and the overall user interface. The games don't look as intimidating to the usual non-gamers. It's classic Nintendo intellect when it comes to gaming. Graphics just don't matter - and I like my eye-candy btw. But... "All that glisters is not gold," as the bard said.
