Ok I have used a wireless router for the past year to connect my macbook adn ps3 to my internet connection. But recently my router ceased to work and I am out of an internet connection to two devices. But one of my friends mentioned it was easily possible to turn my main pc into a wireless router. I have done this by using my macbook and its built in wireless card, but I have been stumped on my pc. my dsl modem is right next to my main pc, and barring a extra long phone cord it will stay there. So if anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated.
Thing I have:
- windows xp pc
- wireless card, in pc
- ethernet card, internet in here

want to do:
- have the ethernet connection be sent out through the wireless card like a router adn connect macbook and ps3 to it.

I am willing to download/install any free software needed, but I am really looking for a wuick fix without having to buy any new equipment, i.e. a new router.

Sorry if this has been asked before.

Bridge the 2. Go to network connections in control panel, you should see both wireless and wired cards there. Highlight them both then right click on one and select bridge connections.

You want to use the Internet Connection Sharing option, don't bridge them.

Quote:
1. Get a CAT5 crossover cable. The cable that came with the PS3 is a normal Ethernet cable, therefore it cannot be used for this operation.

2. Make sure you have two sources for network communication. For example, you can have 2 ethernet ports on your computer, or you can have a wireless card and a Ethernet port etc. It helps to draw out a connection blueprint such as this:

DSL Modem > CAT5 cable > Network Card 1 > Computer > Network Card 2 > CAT5 Crossover cable > PS3

3. Connect your computer to the modem and verify that you have an Internet connection. Then, click on Start, go to settings, control panel. Double click on Network Connections, and identify the connection to your modem (Network card 1).

4. Right click on the modem connection, and choose properties. Next, click on the advanced tab (Sharing tab for Vista users), and check the ?allow other users to connect?? checkbox. After the checkbox is checked, click on the ?Home networking connection? drop down box and select the name of the second network connection. Click OK and exit the properties window.

5. Finally, connect the CAT5 crossover cable from the second network adapter of the computer to the PS3, your Internet connection should now be routed to your PS3. Please be aware that your computer must be on in order for your PS3 to stay online.

Can I ask why you dont want to buy a new router - you could pick one up for about £20.

How many ethernet ports do you have? How are you getting internet connectivity on the laptop? Do you have it hardwired from the modem?

After performing this:

Quote:
Right click on the modem connection, and choose properties. Next, click on the advanced tab (Sharing tab for Vista users), and check the ?allow other users to connect?? checkbox.

Try clicking the settings button under the advanced tab. Then click the web server check box. See if that changes anything. Also, ensure that the Windows firewall is turned off
