Hi all seem to be having major problems trying to make a dual layer dvd
I have a sony dvd rw aw-g170a dvd recorder which is supposed to be able to burn dual layer dvd's I have a blank unused dual layer +r dl dvd in that drive and have been using cyberlink powerdvd software to create the disc
On my hard drive I have a 6.5gb video ts folder which contains all the contents of the video i want to transfer but when i try to burn it as a data file with the correct dvd settings of 8.5gb I get an abort with the message "current operation is aborted by user "
and when I try to create it using the powerdvd copy using the folder with file in it I have to either autofit it to fit 4.5gb or customize the size but then it still fails to burn
please help as this is driving me nuts !!!
It may be good idea to download ImgBurn and use that software for burning double layer DVD.
On DVD/DL it is matter of finding proper place to set layer brake so player can keep going, it is not just matter of burning data.
Suba is correct. Layer break positions can vary widely, and depending on what software ripped the DVD (and depending on what ahhhhem...undesire-ables were removed) the positions for the layer breaks may have been completely removed from the rip. It is very possible to set your own, however, I do not recommend it because unfortunately it is a huge pain in the ass. As Suba said, ImgBurn is your best bet. I have had very few problems, and the ones I did have could be traced to inferior DVD+R DL media. I now only use Verbatim DVD+R DL media. Here is an excellent site detailing which media sucks big time, and which is worth your green dogs.
The other thing to make sure when burning Double Layered discs, is that no matter what anyone tells you, and no matter what speed the discs are rated at, or how fast your burner writes, never EVER burn faster than 2.4X. Always burn at 2.4X. If you don't believe me, there are many forums detailing why this is so.
Further, make sure, if you intend on watching your burn in a set-top or standalone DVD player, that your burner supports bitsetting or booktype-ing, that is, being able to set the media ID of your DVD+R DL to DVD-ROM, so that your player treats it as such.
ok still have probs used imgburn have it all set ready to go but get the message failed to set lo data zone capacity reason invalid field in parameter list
any ideas as it was all going straight forward until then
I suspect it may be something I've done as i may have selected the wrong layer position because when first set it up to run had about 20 choices now when I cancel everything and start again I only get 1 no matter what i do

This is getting little more specific to program fault report.
You will get wright answer on ImgBurn forum, since it is being answered by the author.
http://forum.imgburn.com/ Layer brakes you choose from are usually within range, so no matter what you choose it is correct. Disturbing is that after restart you get only one choice.
If you start all over, that is importing file into ImgBurn and than on, you should get same number of choices, unless there was something wrong with first import.
cheers will try on there figured out the layer brake problem but still getting the fail message if you here of a reason why i might be getting the prob could you let me know

using latest version of imgburn once I hit the burn button after a couple of seconds i get failed to get lo data zone capacity reason no seek complete it gives me an option to continue and then comes up
with an IO error

That was the guide I used although it doesnt really tell you much about the different headings in the creating the layer break position but just went for what looked like the best position.
Have just posted on imgburn's forum with a couple of screen captures of the boxes that come up there's quite a bit of info when you see the io error but means nothing to me so hopefully once the moderator on that site ok's the post you should be able to see it
