I put an original into the 360 bam loads up 1st time EVERY TIME!!
Stick a backup in and it starts to read then a little grinding sound not a hard or harsh one though just a little like aaa-aaa-aaa or eh-eh-eh hard to explain on the net lol.
now if I try on the same disc about 20 times and move the xbox about while it's trying to read every now and then it will load the backup. I can then play that game faultlessly. But if I then try and swap games over I've gopt to go through the whole process again.
I read about the elastic band mod, but that seems just for dirty disc and open tray errors. All mine says everytime is Unplayable Disc.
Any Suggestions guys and gals?
I don't think it's the drive itself because I have 17 original games and it boots each one of them up 1st time every time.
Just thought I'd add here - I use verbs only. And now funny enough I just moved my 360 from upstairs and swapped it with the one down stairs and it's exactly the same.
This one is a Hitachi drive - with garyopa 2.3 or whatever its called on it.
Any solutions ?
Samsung -
Should I try the elastic band mod?
Should I try a pot tweak?
Hitachi - Again originals boot up 1st time it's just the backups.
Should I check to see if that magnet thing is loose? Or do the elastic band mod?
I dunno, I had the same problem, both xbox's were the exact same dvd drive, and my backups would work perfectly in one and not the other. I would just keep retrying like you said and after less than a week I got the red ring of death from overworking the xbox. Not Good :-(
Just be aware of that, and I never found out a solution.
But it works the same backup works perfectly fine of my friends xbox.....so how could it be the games? And did you mean my xbox dvd laser, not the burner?
Yea I agree too. It;'s not my burner, as the 100 or so other backups have always worked. This isn't just 1 game it's happening too, I've tried not all but a good 30-40 backups 1 after another and the same thing over and over again. Stick in an original and bam 1st time everytime.
So no-one thinks a pot mod or elastic band mod would help?

How can it boot an original game 100 times out of 100 if the laser was on it's way out?
Beacuse original games are pressed and not burned. The dye in the DVD is better. Backups make your laser work harder. I forgot all about the laser lol.
Many times I've seen drives with flakey lasers that could load retail games, but not backups that loaded just fine on other consoles. My test for how strong a laser is can if load a backup burnt to crap media. While I don't suggest playing games on crap media a strong laser should be able to load even the crappiest media.
I was having the same prob I tried everything but still burnt disk wouldn't work. I then tried a new burner then it worked. seems my burner crapped out. go buy a new one u can always return it if it still doesn't work.
