All I can think of is to reflash it with the firmware made for the drive.
If you have an old Nero log it would show the firmware version that you need.
A visit to HP support might turn up a usable version.

the problem I am having is with the HP firmware, my burning drive is now a DVD-RAM drive that doesnt recognize any disc inserted, in order to use the HP installer I need to burn a cd-r, ISO, or use a thumb drive, I can do none of them, and I cant seem to find the original firmware for the drive anywhere at HP

I got it on cd, tried it, everything seemed great was in DOS and everything, then it said, this is not the correct firware for this drive!!!?!?!?!, I downloaded it straight from HP, what gets me is that the drive was able to burn a cd-r but it wont recognize any form of a DVD??

Download and run 'IMGBurn'.
Click 'Mode' > 'Write' > 'Tools' > 'Drive' > 'Capabilities'
In a normal functioning burner, it should show what the drive can write to (gets this information from the firmware'.
It will also show the firmware version and allow a check for newer firmware.
Good luck.

Your drive is no longer and HP when you cross flashed to a Lite-on. The HP FW will not work anymore (without some playing around).
