I have been using "ripit4me installer" (ripit4me, decrypter, fixVTS, shrink, imgburn) for about a year or so, but the last few movies that I have purchased (Flags Of Our Fathers) are Dual Layer discs. Is there a guide to ripping/copying, etc. to PC and then burn to DVD DualLayer discs (that does all of the splitting, etc. for me? Can I use the fore mentioned programs for this, or do I need to upgrade to other programs (hopefully free). I hope I'm in the correct forum.

Dvd shrink will do it. It compresses dvd-9 to be able to fit on blank dvd-5 media.

I apologize for not expressing myself well enough.
I want to copy 1 to 1. copy a dl disc back to a dl disc that I can keep for a backup. I don't want to compress the movie unless that is the only way.
Thanks saugmon for your reply!

Almost all store brought disks are dual layer but they are pressed rather than burnt.

You can use Decyrpter to copy these to Dual Layer - ISO Read -> ISO Write.

You can also use Imgburn (free).

ImgBurn will do that for you as well. It's the only program that I use for the few DL backups that I do.

Open up Imgburn-insert original,Click Mode/Read- Take note of where the destination files goes onto the HD. Click the disc icon and away she rips.

Then insert the blank, MODE/Write/Locate the source file you just ripped-Browse for folder icon/Open up the MDS folder-not the iso/OK. Set burn speed below 4x and click the disc icon to burn away!

Imgburn is very similar to Dvd decrypter's ISO read and write mode.

It's one of the finest DL burn engines out there!!

First of all: thanks, for the replies.
When I use ImgBurn for my dual layer disc, do I need to booktype anything so as to play in my home dvd player?

If you have booktyping capability, Yes. Definitely for +RW and +R DL media.

Set "change for" for Dvd +R DL. Select "new setting" to dvd-rom,ok,ok. Current setting should say DVD-ROM after that.

If going back to +r media, then you'll have to switch it back.

If your drive doesn't have bitsetting capability, then the drive tab in Imgburn will be grayed out.

thank you saugmon very much for all of your info and help. I have to fly to Ohio, so when I get back I'll try it out. I really don't know if my drives have booktyping or not, I'll check it out. I have an internal sony dru-530a drive and an external lg gsa-5163 drive.
Thanks again,

You May want to consider replacing your Sony dru-530a drive, as it is a very old Drive (abt. 4 yrs.), even the lg gsa-5163 drive is about 2 years old, Make sure the firmware is up to-date. A replacement drive can be had for about $30 Bucks at http://www.newegg.com
