swapping drives

i have a TS drive in my 360 thats been acting up. unable to read disk errors. adjusted the pot, fixed it for a little while, but now sometimes it will happen in the middle of a game. i have another 360 with a hitachi drive. the hitachi 360 is banned from live and the TS is not. if i swap these drives am i still banned from live or do they ban the console itself. also i heard the lasers in the TS and Hitachi are the same, it is true? thanks

when i swap the drives in the 360's what do i need? i know i need both drive keys and i know i need to swap that part out, but what prog should i use to do that? i can probobly use iprep to put the hitachi into the sammy, but what do i use to put the sammy to the hitachi?

all you have to do is flash the new drive with the old drives FW.

ok cool. and will the drive be banned from live or not? i dont wanna waste my time on a hopeless cause. if it wont work ill just swap the lasers if they match

they ban the console not the drive,
so it will be fine.

awesome thanks. im gunna go try it now. oh i read somewhere that if you use the 12v spot on a 360 mobo, it pulls power from the dvd drive. i put in a case fan using the 12v spot, could that possibly be the reason im getting disk read errors assuming its pulling power from the dvd drive? thanks again

-UPDATE-
after 5 hours, i finally got my hitachi drive to restore. it would tell me that it couldnt read the drive. well it finally worked, orig firmware works, drive still works. now im trying to spoof the firmware to a ts-ms25. im using 360 fw toolbox 3.0/3.1/4.5, none of which are working. im trying to raw dump the drive, says it cant be recognized, but classic dump works. try to spoof the firmware with the internal flasher, cant read drive. anyone know how to get past this? i know im in mode b because i have a rapid flashing power button, have to press eject twice to open and close tray, and its detected in windows and on my bios. i do the slax method, load an original 360 game while slax is running. any ideas?

ok got it to spoof the drive (i think). ran the spoof with 59flasher, because internal flasher wouldnt work for some reason. this time 59 flasher finished and i guess that worked. i went to go replace the drive key and internal flasher wouldnt work again. i tried 59flasher and it froze my comp. turned off 360 hooked up the cables and i was getting 1 light flashing, no error code on the tv tho, so im assuming its error 66. took it out and put it into the TS mobo 360 and it recognized it. worked with a dvd, but not with a 360 original or backup. my bios is still saying its a hitachi, but when i tried getting into mode b with the slax disk, it wont pick it up. i dont have a resistor to get mode b that way, so is there any way to get into mode b now?
EDIT-used just 2 needles and a wire for the resistor trick, no resistor, and the light was blinking like i was in mode b, but when i try to boot windows, it hangs at boot cdrom. i ejected the drive and it takes me out of mode b.
EDIT-got it in mode b with a combination of resistor/enable0800 disk. it stays in mode b now during ejects. slax disk still isnt working right, it doesnt start spinning the disk for me to eject, but it goes all the way through. drive wont show up on windows or my bios. any suggestions?

slax wont put it in mode b, doesnt work anymore. i got it to show up on my bios as a hitachi drive again, but in windows, its a TS drive. tried runnin restore.bat on multiple firmware versions, but when i goes to verify restore, it says it didnt restore, even tho all the steps say DONE after them. trying to use fw toolbox makes my computer freeze still, guess im gunna have to keep trying it, thats how i got it to spoof. im off to work, any ideas on how to fix this would be great. thanks
