I have opened up my wii, cleaned it entirely, and closed it up and still no working SSBB on my wiikey 1.9g with 3.2u firmware (just updated after the 3.1u had no success).
The thread about powering off the wii while updating the wiikey was bull as I've tried it several times with no luck. However,
is there anyway to disable the wiikey such as corrupting the firmware? Then we can just use the recovery disc in theory.
This is exactly waht I was talking about on the main SSBB thread. This guy has obviously did not read the wii thread, but I cant really blame him. It's huge and the relevant info is scattered across 70+ pages of people complaining about things not working. We need a new brawl thread, prefabily a sticky.

Alright dude, All this has been said in the main brawl thread but I'll recap it quickly.
Brawl not working on a wii with wiikey is NOTHING TO DO WITH THE LASER BEING DIRTY. Opening it up and trying to clean the laser will do nothing. Dosent matter how well you clean it, it wont work because of a glitch in the wiikey.
And the powering off the wii while updating wiikey trick DOES work, I know several people who have tried it. And to answer your last question it works BECAUSE powering down while flashing firmware corrupts the firmware. If you'd read the origional thread discribing this trick properly you would have seen that you use the recovery disk to undo it and make the wiikey work again.
Then do you think it is because I was using the 1.9g install instead of the 1.9b install? Because I used the 1.9g install and yes i know how EEPROM works which is why it confused me as to why it wasn't working when I did it multiple times.

Someone else posted that they tried the 1.9g version and it didn't work but then tried the 1.9b version and it did work. I would try the 1.9b and see how it goes. Remember to pull the plug the second time it runs (when it is actually updating the firmware) and not the first time (since it is only making sure it can update).
