if i hardmod my psp fat's battery will i still be able to use it for normal psp usage?

No, but you could install a custom IPL to your memory card to force it to boot to the XMB or use the UPMS (same idea).

Just search for it on google or something, they're some files that go on your Magic Memory Stick, i don't know too much about it because i've never used it...

because its a fat battery you remove the pin to put it into service mod

so if you solder the pin back down you take it out of service mod and put it back into normal mod its easy if you know how to solder and have the equipment if not the do what Shokz said it doesnt require any mucking about with solder 0_<
