I just (last night) modded my benq with ixtrme 1.41 from stock firmware, and everything was working fine until my network dropped and my xbox froze during cod4. Now whenever i try to go to cod4 multiplayer menu it either locks instantly or when i get into game, once i got an error screen w/ code e71 and once a dirty disc error. I also get random lockups during some of the backups i created (which all pass mulleter and xbc) but cod4 is an original.
It also seems to make a bit of a high pitch noise not like a fast spinning but maybe a rubbing or stressing the lens. it was 8x speed i flashed it with, and it was working fine until the network dropped.

Any one have any ideas of what i should do or try? microsoft says the error of e71 occurs when you update and a prob w/the hard drive but i tried disconnecting and shutting everything off and restarting and still same problem.

Any suggestions or ideas?
thanks any help is appreciated.

Burn it at the lowest speed possible to prevent any problems. Also did you mod it correctly?

Yes there really isn't a way to mod incorrectly if it is modded. The games are all burned at 2.4x speed on verbatim media. It will load and recognize all the backups, they just happen to freeze up at times. Like bully would play up until the point where you it requiers input from the controller but then it locks up. Army of Two locked up after the loading screen in singleplayer. Plus CoD4 is an original.

Also the xbox itself is only just over a month old.

So now my problem seems to have gotten worse. It worked fine after the next day, and I only had the problem once more. But now every time I try to go into a multiplayer match it locks up after i select my weapon. It is an original disk and i have tried 8x and 12x read speeds, and have tried several different original disks. It also locks up during rainbow six vegas 2 and orange box. which are backups burnt on verbatims from singapore at 2.4x. However it will play games like burnout and guitar hero without a problem.

Could this possibly be my drive going already? the xbox is only 2 months old, but i think the problem first happened after I tried playing the back up of assassin's creed that takes 2 minutes to load. I only tried it twice but it seemed to put a lot of strain on the drive.

I have tried looking around and cannot find anymore information on this, so any kind of insight would be helpful.

You consider restoring it to original? Id do that and see if the problem keeps up. If it does then im thinking ur gona have to have ur 360 sent in or fixed. And if it stops Id redownload a new Xtreme 1.41

Yea thats kind of what i was afraid of, I'm going to try that tonight when i get back to school. Also my warranty sticker isn't in very good shape, anybody know of anywhere to get a new one or to make mine look original? Or if they would still possibly repair it.
Thanks for the input.

I had this problem with my verbs. I switched over to memorex and the issue went away. My games would lock up and skip. Once I switched to another type of media the problem went away, but since your playing store bought copies of games as well that is not likely the problem. You might want to try bumping the read speed back up to 12x and see if that takes care of the issue. You may just have a picky drive in your 360. Thats the only thing I can think it would be. I don't think anything would boot at all if the issue was with the firmware.

Well i have tried a version of benq 1.4, and so far my cod4 is working fine (haven't tried anything else yet), hopefully it doesn't mess up again. Thanks for all the input guys.

this happens frequently with 360's whether or not its modded:(

empty the cache:)

to clear the xbox 360's memory cache,
1. go to the system blade on your menu(should be the very last one)
2. go down to were it says memory, click on it. this should bring up your hard drive or other storage devices, press a on the one you want to empty
3. once youve gotten to the screen were it shows rename or format your storage device, input Y,X,X,LB,RB,X,X and a prompt will come up asking you if you want to empty your systems cache.

also this happens alot to me when i use bad media:( switch to verbatim DVD+R DL

Is the cache stored on the hard-drive, or is it some kind of built in flash memory? because i tried it without a hard drive even and it still froze. Also i only use verbatims from singapore. but thanks for the advise i'll probably try clearing the cache anyways.

It's on the hard drive.
