Hello everyone, I just recently got my wii modded with the d2c key and so far I've been able to get SSBB working perfectly with some finetuned dual layer break settings on imgburn with a verbatim DLDVDR. I am unable to get any other games to read, however. I'm getting the unreadable disc error. I have a feeling since my drive burned SSBB successfully with a verbatim DL disc, it does not like my Dynex DVD-R's for other games that I've been trying (even at 2x burn speed) so I'll try picking up some single layer verbatims in the next couple days and try those out.

My main question is about regions, however. I purchased an extra Wii drive from outside the USA and I'm not even really sure what region it is. I have the firmware fully updated. I read through the post that is already up about avoiding bricking your wii, but I was wondering if this problem is mod-chip specific because d2c key's website reads "Direct boot of Wii and Gamecube games, on-the-fly region patching, audiostreaming fix and more." and "..and even a lot of games from regions with different video system can be booted directly." Does this mean that it will automatically detect the region and fix it as is, or does this mean something other than what it says? If I start to get an automatic update notice from a game should I immediately shut down?

The drives themselves don't have an regions attached to them. You can take a USA drive and put it in a JAP Wii w/o a mod chip or any other modification and it will work fine. The console itself is the one that you are updating with new firmwares specific for it's region.

Even if your Wii Firmware is up to date, you can still brick it with a non-USA game that has an update. Always run "BrickBlocker" on the non-USA ISO first before burning it. That will ensure that you won't install a firmware from another region and lock your wii. Then you can play pretty much any game your heart desires.

The region of your console is shown in the Wii settings where the firmware number is shown. i.e. If you have a fully and correctly updated Wii then the code will be something like 3.2J (Japan), 3.2U (USA), 3.2E (European).
