Did it do anything? Why such the odd jump in numbers?

**very cool - the ability to watch video as you download it is much appreciated.
**not so much - the trend micro thing - a service that you have to eventually pay for offered as a parental control? Should that not be standard and free?
*Themes: 1st is still best but - PSN logo looks way out of place (ugly oversaturated logo)
airflow is pretty cool looking but not really my style
*Remote Start - appears to be working perfectly for me
*Information Board... turned off the stupid little news bar ... annoys the heck out of me.
*Playlists: perfection in action /dance gleefully
***The transparent notification window for messages and online is a welcome addition (no longer blots out the screen)
****check out the video chat room now.... muh hah hah ha
All from here
It's pretty much the same...=[
Enjoy=]

Lol. My bad I guess he got confused cause he said that was the new update.
My bad. But I installed the new update and it's pretty much the same thing.
I don't see any new features.

Could it be that all those PS3's that couldn't read disks resulted from a firmware/software problem after all? I had my suspicions as well because this only started up after the 2.00 updates.

You and me both buddy, I don't want to have to buy another controller nor go through all the warranty junk just because of a firmware bug, but its driving me insane going into random spins when I'm playing online and get killed.

I am actually extremely pissed off right now finding out it fixes disc read errors. This means that Sony is a bunch of liars because whenever I talked to them about this they denied having any involvement into why this was happening. REALLYYY sketchy if you ask me. Obviously they care more about there rep than there customers. It doesnt make me feel to well knowing they knew all along but would not live up to it.
Second thinking this though I'm skeptical as to whether this really fixes the problem. Why were people fixing theres by buying replacement bluray drives? You can't fix a hardware issue with a software patch...

Even though I read the PS3 blog as well, I doubt an update which took so long is only for online game stability, going off what grkblood said I think they fixed the disk read errors but don't want to admit that it was their fault. Especially because of the odd jump in version numbers.

I'm hearing that the reason it takes so long to download is because its not actually just a patch, you download the entire firmware each time it is updated. This is to ensure that you get ALL of the updates and not just the latest patch. (it was almost 200mb)

That is correct, it is the same with the PSP's firmwares as well.

SO you mean to tell me that if I would have kept my 60gb PS3 and this patch came out, then my ps3 would start reading blueray disks again?!?!?!? For some reason around the Assasins Creed disk issue, my PS3 started to eventually act that way with all blueray disks. It wouldnt notice I inserted a disk. I put a ps2 disk or regualr dvd, it recognoize that a disk was inserted. So Basically I had a PS2.5.
After deleting all the game data utilities for all my games, still no BD disks played at all, I took the 6ogb back (got a $200 credit back too. only good thing that came out of that)and I now have the 40gb and want my backwards compatability!!!! I gave my ps2 to my kids for Xmas, and then my 60gbps3 breaks. Now after about 5 months later, and a downgrade in a PS3 system,(eventhough the 40gb is more reliable) they fix the issue.
I think Im more upset that its a fix for it now............

Easy there partner alot of other people are in the same crapper that you are, but the disk reading fix still hasn't been confirmed by well known sources so at this time it can only be taken as speculation as I already had said.
