Problems connecting to xbox 360 live with linksys wireless router

I have a LINKSYS 2.4 GHz wireless router model WRT54G.
I bought the wireless network adapter for the xbox(white box with antenna).
I had it set up sweet by myself with the internet. It worked great. When I was talking to a rep from XBOX she told me to unplug everything.Typical. Well when I plugged it all back in, it stopped working.Now it won't work with my internet.All the lights are on as indicated thru setup.Justa bunch of click here if lights aren't on.Why unplug everything was beyond me. It was working fine. Everything is on, the lights,the DSL, but I get no connection to the router for internet.
I have everything I need for WIRED or WIRELESS access for xobx 360. Please can anybody guide me thru this. I know how to get IP address and netmask and gateway and all that. But no matter the numbers,and decimals, or how direct I follow steps, I get no connection. XBOX just assumes plug and play. I did all my homework on this, and I'm lost. Nobody shows picture steps, just words so it's really kinda hard for me at this point. I don't know where else to turn to ask.ANYBODY????
Well whether I want to connect WIRED or WIRELESS I have to use the router. Do I need a STATIC IP address. My current is DYNAMIC. Which of course the XBOX wants STATIC.

Had the same problem, those WRT54Gs are the worst, why they are always on sale. That router also messed up my VOIP phone, it sux, buy a new one and ebay the WRT

I have almost the same router. I have a WRT54GS but they should be very similar. I have no problems at all getting on Xbox Live. But i am not using the Xbox adapter i have the Linksys wireless adapter (WGA54G). Some things to note:
1. sometimes Xbox Live likes a specific firmware. It is listed on Xbox.com that your router model should be either V1,2,orV3 running firmware 3.01.3, or 3.03.6
Mine i just updated to whatever the latest was and it works fine.
2. that router most likely has security, reseting it may have reset the key, and you may need to put that new key. Which you need to change on the Xbox to connect.
3. Unplugging everything will just reset the connection and usually does get you connected again. I have to do it after things like power outages to get connected again on the 360 (the regular internet on the PC will still work fine though). But you have to do it in order. You unplug both the router and your modem for 15 seconds. Then you plug in your modem first and let it run through all of it's tests and let the lights come on fully like they should be (other then your LAN/internet light which you will not get until the router is running). Then do the same for the router, plug it in and let it go through it's start up proceedure.
So, update the firmware, check all of the information in your 360 and make sure it is correct and double check that you selected the correct type of security you have running (WEP ect..), the security key, and other security info. After that cycle the modem and router as written above. See what happens. Then i can help further after you run the "Xbox Live" test on the 360 and say where it is failing in the process.

I have version 8.0.03. If I want to hook it up wired, I'd need a router anyway right? what about power over ethernet? One big problem I'm having is the IP address, my current provider changes it random after you log off and on, so it's never the same, but the xbox wants the same IP every time. I'm trying to do this without having to pay an extra $50 with my current provider from the upgrade. I have the routers IP address, the modems IP,LAN IP,XBOX adapter IP, which IP am I going to use?I know your being direct in assisting me, but you know where I can get a picture setup guide? It would help alot, I went to Protocol/IP properties, that will allow me to set the desired IP address. I got the information to change it all. But I've done it before and had problems with it. I tried bridging the networks, but it won't allow me to. Says TCP/IP is not availible with my connection. I guess I'll just take back the router and get another one. Try the speed boost model you have you have.

OK here are the steps:
1. go to Start->Run-> and in the box typ "cmd" without quotes. This will bring up the command promt (dos prompt).
2. Now type ipconfig/all and it will bring up all of you information on your connection.
Write it all down.
3. Now go into your router page and get the security type and key. Usually this is done by bringing up your web browser and typing 192.168.1.1 and then a box pops up for the password. If you set one up use it, if not the default is usually "admin".
It will tell you things like the security key, they type of security (WEP, WPA) and another thing like TKIP. Write all that down.
4. Take all that info to the 360 and enter it in the network settings. You want to set the IP address in the range of the one you wrote down from your PC. Like if your PC says 192.168.1.100 then set the xbox to 192.168.1.105
Everything else you enter should match the pc exactly (subnet mask, default gateway, dsn addresses and so on)
If your IP changes every time you may want to set it to automatic and just let the 360 aquire that info from the router automatically. That or go to Portforward.com and look up your router. It will tell you how to set up a static IP address on you PC so it stays the same.

I tried updating the firmware. downloaded patch, got winzip. But winzip won't open it for some reason. I'll try portforward. I appreciate your help. tho you say 192.168.1.100 and then the xbox will be set 192.168.1.105, where do I get the 5 from in the example? You explain to match the number, but the last digit for the xbox is 5 and PC at 0. Sorry I got mixed up. I know your trying with ease, but it's just me. Sorry about that. I will try portforward.

when you have a home network, which is what the 360 connects to your internet on, each device you have connecting has to have it's own IP address. But they have to be in the range of the IP address that your PC shows.
So if you look on the PC and it had 192.168.1.100
and say you have a 360 you can set that up with any number in that range that no other device on your network is using. Meaning you just change the last set of numbers. it can be 101, 102, 106, 110 or something like that.
another example would be if you had a 360, xbox 1 and a laptop:
PC 192.168.1.100
laptop 192.168.1.101
Xbox1 192.168.1.102
360 192.168.1.103
does that make sense? If you have the same IP number on two of them then you will have conflicts and they will not connect to the internet.
