@ rafadawn

will do!

@ Memphisto

I believe a Yellow Light means that you have WiiConnect24 on. If you get a red light, then your WiiConnect24 is not on. When you unplug and re-plug the Wii, it should always be a red light. I'm not sure why, but it just is.

Needless to say, it will always be a red light if you choose not to turn on WiiConnect24.

Dunno...I've tried this for about an hour now and it doesn't seem to do anything. I've tried all my backups that previously worked, the unpadded and padded versions of the 1.9b recover and NOTHING. Were you guys using Wii firmware 3.2U? They did make some "disc drive" changes with this firmware..maybe it doesn't read initially with this firmware or something , who knows.. I'm stumped. I'll try later on after work..I doubt anything will happen though.

I was indeed using 3.2U. Updated through the internet, then with SSBB.

I will corrupt my firmware again to confirm that the way partriv outlined (or Option B) works. Will update in a few minutes.

Update

Okay, so I forgot I lent my Recov stuff to a friend. Sorry I took so long. but that's okay, I burned new ones, and it still worked in the end. I even turned off WiiConnect24 this time to see if it had to do with anything.

I am almost 100% sure partriv's outline will work regardless of DVD media (as long as it is a DVD-R @ 1x to 4x speed).

- I started off with no disc in the Wii, and unplugged the Wii for 5 seconds.
- Plugged it back in, pressed Eject, and waited 5 seconds.
- Power On, saw safety screen, and stuck 1.9b Recov in.
- Waited till it stopped spinning, and Pressed A.
- Pressed reset at the menu.
- Waited at menu for 4 minutes.
- Power Off. Waited 10 seconds.
- Power On, waited till disc stopped spinning, and Pressed A.
- At the channels, there will not be a GC Logo.
- Ejected 1.9b Recov.
- Inserted 1.9g. A GC Logo SHOULD appear this time.
- Update as normal, then to 1.9s if needed.

Media:

Unpadded 1.9b Recov on Fujifilm DVD-R @ 2x
Padded 1.9g/1.9s Update on Fujifilm DVD-R @ 4x

As you can see, this is crappy media, but it worked. Nothing fancy, as long as its a DVD-R and burned at the right speed. I used ImgBurn, btw. I also didn't bother GCOSing or whatever crazy stuff you do.

Good Luck!

It can't be the media (bought two extra packs of blank DVD's for nothing-[Maxell and Verbatim]-) and it definitely can't be my write speed..I've tried tooo many. It simply just does not work. I've followed both sets of instructions EXACTLY!! Right down to the waiting 10 seconds part. I think I'm just gonna have to rip this thing out (professionally of course) and get a new Wiikey. Besides they are selling them for 20 bucks now which truly isn't a big deal for me. If anything shows up though I will be sure to let you guys know...as for now the plan is to just play Brawl until I have some time to get a new key. I didn't buy these blank DVD's for nothing I'll tell you that!

I feel that if you keep trying you will succeed

Like i stated before, I made it work without knowing it, i reseted correctly i guess, but i dont know what I did first, to the fact that I thought that it did not needed, but I resetted and power off and all and never got the GC logo, but it did recover becuase after a few tries, not to say many, the disc then actually worked and i installed the 1.9g back.

So i wish you luck, try your best, dont let the GC logo be your complete, if you do the steps correctly, then try putting some burnt games, maybe it will work and see the logos of those, like it happen to me, then you can put in the 1.9g and your done.

Worked for me. So hope it works for you

For some of us that have been trying for a week or longer it sure doesn't seem like it. I guess some Wiikeys are simply trashed...for some reason ours took more damage than others when we did the 70% trick. Oh well...my new Wiikey is on the way. I'll uninstall this one and reinstall with professional help. Thanks for the help anyway guys.

I understand everyones frustration, I just got my recovery working after about 45 minutes.

I used taiyo yuden dvd-r, burned at 16x, from the recovery disc file on the wiikey resources thread (the sticky), filechopped to the 1.35 gig size (follow the file chop tutorial.)

I tried several things but here is what worked.

Start with wii turned off.
Power on wii.
hit a to go past safety screen
eject any disc in the drive
put in recovery disc
at this point no GC icon should appear and the disc should not read (apart from some disc loading sounds)
press reset on the wii (do not turn it on and off, just hit reset)
go past the safety screen
at this point the recovery disc should still be in the drive, not reading (or seems like its not.)
wait 5-7 minutes, i waited 6
reset the wii (do not turn it on and off, just hit reset) I might have hit power to go to yellow dot here, can't remember)
go past the safety screen
there should be no GC logo in the disc channel
eject the recovery disc and put in the wiikey 1.9g update disc
The GC logo should appear for this, if not try again.
Update to 1.9g (i used the 1.9g filechopped update available on the wiikey resources stick thread)
Once that is complete, upgate to 1.9s
Send some positive feedback to the wiikey team (via their website) for being so badass
You are now ready to get back to playing SSBB

let me know if i can help anyone out

p.s. I know there is a lot of discussion about medium. I ALWAYS use taiyo yudens, they are by far the best discs i have ever found. I get them in bulk from rima.com, but that is not a plug, it's just where i get it from. I suggest to anyone who ever has media problems, get TY's, you'll never look back.
After an hour or so of failed attempts, I tried this LINE FOR LINE with one possible exception, and it worked.

I used a 1,425,760kb padded 1.9b recovery DVD-R, Memorex Brand, burned with Nero and 4x speed (it MIGHT have been imgburn, I bounce between them).

After initially inserting the disc in the instructions, I might have hit power (to go to a yellow light) instead of hitting rest, I updated the quote so you know where I am talking about.

After following the rest of the instructions, I inserted a GCOS+Padded 1.3 disc and got a gamecube icon that I was able to execute.

Hope this helps.

Ah thank you mate!
After following these instructions I could finally fully recover my Wiikey. I can contribute by saying that I used Verbatim DVD+R on 4x so I guess Wii isn't that sensitive on using DVD-R.
Thanks again, you made my day.

You can't make that generalisation because others might try it and not have the same burner and their individual Wii might well be less tolerant of media you have had success with. DVD-R is STILL the most popular and reliable format of disk for use in a Wii console. I'd advise all to go that way unless they had a few +R already lying around or even +/-RW. I've got all sorts to work in mine but I'd not recommend anything than Verbatim DVD-R because it's consistent for me and most others as well.

hello boys, I can happily confirm that BFF's method worked, if followed step by step. Notes: I burned with Verbatim DVD-R at 8X, and the disc was unpadded. Thanks guys, especially to BFF

Ntsc wii
3.1U
1.9b

I am trying to update to 1.9g/s but it keeps failing at the test. Received the check connection error.
Tried updating after turning region override on and still failing.
Before I bring it back to the shop that modded my wii again to take a look, I want to try recovering to 1.9b.

I burned the disk with sony -r at 2x and 4x. Done all the different instructions that were posted at this thread but it never recovered. My drive never stopped spinning after I placed the 1.9b recovery disk in and it always automatically goes to the channel after about a minute and it displays the GC logo.

All my backup still works with the exception of galaxy, ssbb, etc which are the ones I want to play.

Please advise
