On drudge report today was an article saying that many usa companies are forced to outsource because of tight immigration laws. They claim that a cap on highly skilled immigrants has forced companies like microsoft to outsource their jobs to other countries that americans could do. My problem is why can they not hire highly skilled americans to do the jobs that are located in america and not have to bring over immigrants? Why train americans to do the job if they are gonna hire people from other countries for a lower amount anyway?

You kind of answered your own question.

It's less expensive. People in the outsourced countries have a lower standard of living and will work longer hours for much less money. There really isn't much else to it, other than gain, otherwise it wouldn't be done.

I asked that to more or less point out the sad state of mega corporations and the means they go about business. At some point even gates should have a conscious.

People that come here legally and are qualified for a position are required to be paid the same as an American-born worker would be. Only illegals and unqualified employees, or employees losing out because of factors like automation, are paid less for equivalent work.

One of the problems with the United States is that, unlike pretty much every other country in the world, we really don't have import tariffs on anything: cars, clothes, labor, and so on. If we did, the average American citizen would spend money in a way that would force us to be more self sufficient, as we were around 100 years ago.

Part of the problem with such a materialistic nation as that which we have become is that, at first, there is an economic boom; but this boom is followed by recession after recession, as people demand more and more product for less money, forcing outsourcing and feeding greed of the producers who can get away with monopolies and agreements to shortchange the consumer.

The only viable solution, in my opinion, would be to cut down on the birth rate nationally and move back into a period of isolationism. People wouldn't have to go through as much unnecessary schooling to get jobs to make more money because they would be growing some of their own food, fixing their own shit instead of buying new stuff, etc.

But being a bit more self-sufficient doesn't make sense. We can't do that, because then the rich wouldn't get richer, the poor wouldn't get poor, and we wouldn't have a continually shrinking middle class as the government bloats with unrequired rules and regulations, wasting everything from natural resources and energy to human lives.

Hell no, we couldn't consider actually changing any of that. We'll bitch and moan, but no more than a few individuals will ever make daily changes in their routines until a gun is at their head. We'll use whatever we've got, blow our budget completely, then go steal shit from some peedunk nation while borrowing from other nations, swearing out children will pay back debt that doesn't exist but on paper and will never actually be repaid, only swapped from debtee to debtee. No one will act out of a sense of responsibility to society and the world.

Why? 'Cuz we're 'Merica, dammit.
