To people who dont care about there warranty or have an expired one or have a depression because of sending and returning there xbox360 to micros**t... yesterday i decided to open my 360 (i learned how threw billions of tutorials on youtube and its easy), i looked at the design of the duct that is cooling the GPU... well its really pathetic, the DVD DRIVE is killing GPU airflow and most of the air sucked is going to the CPU, the shocking point is not here, the point is that i looked at the rear fans and here it is, they are high speed (but not silent) 12V fans, running at 4V,i tested the fans alone on a real 12V adaptor and u will get a massive airflow, M$ didnt put the fans on full speed for noise issue, but i personaly dont care about noisy fans coz i will not hear them when playing :) those fans running at 12V are really noisy and i mean it but so powerful , its more 4-5 times more noisy than the DVD drive at full speed, so i mounted a special adapter that have a switch which i can control the voltage in case i found the fans too noisy i can switch them down to 9V or less (but not under 6V or u will overheat again) i personaly choosed the 9V with acceptable noise and excellent efficency. so i disconnected the fans from the board (join the red+brown cables for positive and black and blue for negative coz each fans have its own cable) and make them come out as 2 cables only (positive and negative ) and let those cables come out from the xbox360 then re-assemble the xbox again eh VOILA, you have xbox360 with controlled fan speed, the result after playing 4 hours i putted my hand from behind and discovered that the air coming from the rear is still cold not even warm(and thats on 9V so imagine on 12V it will freeze for sure :). Hope you guys like the idea, well its the only way to make your xbox360 freeze without spending money on water cooling and other inventions!!! but becarefull, the fans are now turn on and off and controled threw the external adapter, so dont forget to plug it when u turn on your xbox360 or u will fry it in minutes lol. (always plug the adapter first and then turn on the xbox), OK guys hope you liked my easy, free toturial :) for sure you will like it because its time to say BYE BYE RROD forever.

I have my stock fans running at 12v and added a fan header at the front of the motherboard, with a fan hooked there as well, running at 12v as well. I've also drilled holes in the case where that fan fits (in a nice uniformed fashion btw :)) so it can suck cool air in.

The front fan is mounted in between the front of the case and the cpu heatsink and blows air under the dvd drive to get more air to the gpu. I've also made a channel to direct the air into the gpu.

Even with these mods (along with the fan shroud divider mod) i wouldn't say the 360 is freezing...but it does run a lot cooler.

Mind you, even with these mods the 360 still froze a month later due to the thermal paste that MS uses. After replacing it with AS5 thermal paste it's been running perfect for many many months.

Bottom line though is this setup runs 50% (if not more) cooler than the refurbished unit I got back from MS 2 months ago.

I'll try to post/send pics as soon as I can.

My camera died recently and I still have not replaced it.

I'll try to get some pics in the next couple of days. :)

Edit: I had time to read through your original post completely and will respond to it now. Sorry, but it just hurt my eyes the first time through...even the fifth time through...without any paragraph structure..

...I had a big long thing about how the dvd drive its self isn't killing the air flow, blah blah blah and such, but this should explain it better. http://rbjtech.bulldoghome.com/pages/rbj...com/Xbox360.htm

Doing that, along with modding your fans to run at 12v, and adding the extra fan as I stated above keeps it running nice and cool. Oh, and very loud lol.

I'll still try to get you some pics by this weekend of my setup. ;)

Just be careful playing XBL. M$ can detect voltage differences hense the ban. If your not connected to XBL no problem.

I agree. As I stated in another thread, if that were the case every 360 that is overheating would be banned because it kicks in to 12v at that point to help cool it.

Microsoft has been doing this for years since the first PC games. they check the voltage on pc to ip to see if you have an account with (lets say counter strike, half life) if you don't you are kicked off. This is old technogy. Remember, M$ xbox live has over 10 mil. costomers and will take some time to ban you. Besides if they can check to see if you flashed your drive what makes you think that they can detect a voltage difference. Check out M$ terms of aggreement on modifications.

From my understanding they can't detect the drive either, it's the backup's that give the bad Data. But I do understand what your saying. I just don't think they have went to that extreme yet.Face it, they are the number one selling console cause you can hack it, sure is'nt cause it's reliable. They are making loads of money off hackers in marketplace Downloads,& Most owning 2 console's.Them banning for 12 volt mods is about as believeable as wii shortages.I think if they go to that extreme in bannning that, alot of people will lose intrest in xbox all together. It may not hurt them this time around, But I am sure it surely will on the next next Xbox. But in the end You or I don't really Know what they are checking Only Microsoft will really know.

Just an interesting thought. They have and this is why people have 2 360s. From a money point of view it's great. Ban someones xbox 360's serial so that you are banned from live but your xbox still works and you are forced to buy another 360 to play live with your friends. Sooner or later they win.Look at Xbox 360 sales. Think about it, If they banned your gamer tag you would probaly choose another system to play on. And if they ban you why not prosecute you. They need you to come back to live so your forced to buy another xbox and live content. Maybe I'm looking into it to much, but it's just a thought.

This might be a stupid question and if so im sorry for asking.
what does the voltage have to do with having a account?

on a side note I have a moded 360 from allmost day 1 of moding and was NEVER banned until I finally messed up and played a backup copy on live just a few months ago. Until then I only played originals on live with no problems.

hey guys microsoft will ban you only if you played backed up games on XBL, just put original games if you want to play online, or else you will be banned, because there are some of the special secured microsoft files missing on the backed up disk, and xbl if when checking didnt find those files so you will be banned, there is nothing related to voltage !!!!, if its true u may be banned if you put a poor power supply thats dont give good voltage on cpu !!!!

Like mentioned above, MS detects a bad rip and bans you, not that you have a flashed drive.

but the thing im wondering about is "why does microsoft put a 12v fans running at 5V" dude those fans at 12v will make your GPU and CPU near the room tempreture!!!! but make a lot of noise, why didnt they put 12V high RPM fans like the one in the xbox360 now, but silent ones!!!!!! will fix the whole problems and save on microsoft millions of returned consoles!!

theres a lot fo good ideas in the post. but as i read through the rest, i just watned to throw a few comments into it all.

If you keep up with the modding community, chances are you will never get banned. i have been doing this for 2 years now. i always update as soon as new firmware is available, i always use the newest firmware when burning games. always have the latest tools to flash with. ive done over 50 xbox's since i started, and only one got banned, and that was only becuase the firmware and games were old and he didnt care if it got banned. just keep up to date with everythig and you wont have any problems. honelsty there are ppl out there making these things up that are way ahead of MS. they arent that powerful, they just think they are. And do you really think that they care that much, banning are stricty to boost sells when they get down. and newer firmware and games cant be detected if you are up to date. if they cared that much they would put hitachi 79's in every box and do some research on what is really going on. they still make billions of dollars a year off og consoles and games alone. sells drop, bannings start, jsut keep up to date and you wont have to worry about it.
