Hi im about to get my Wii (PAL)modded with Wii Key chip in Sydney.
Anyways i have a few questions about the firmware for Wii key. i've already read the Sticky "http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/597460" - by rafadawn

This is about installing Wii key firmware:
1) Are the firmware links provided by posts in afterdawn posts?
2) So i download the files from the link and just burn them?
3) What does this mean "After the 1.9g update, you might need to run a CONFIG disc in GCOS mode to turn REGION OVERRIDE back ON."?
4) What is GCOS format?
5) What is this "Padded files for those who are Filechop-challenged"
6) Are there any other issues i should know about when modding Wii key? I know about running games that are for the same region. (eg Pal Wii --> Pal Games)...is there anything else i should know about?

Thank you for your Time

If you already read that thread then you can see the links to the firmware and also answers to other questions. Any concerns you have should actually be posted in that thread but I advise you to read it again and NOT post anything until you've actually got your wiikey in and have actually made the effort to try following the instructions there in updating and configuring the wiikey. It's on a plate imho.

Guys on this forum have mentioned the new Wasabi mod chip. Personally I would do more research on it.

http://www.wasabi.net.cn/

I am of the opinion the WiiKey is no longer supported as I cannot find any data on the creators since I got one at the start of this year.

It was replaced by the D2C chip on the latter consoles. Plenty of reading in these forums about it all.

Read this:

Good luck.

Digibear - the guy actually has that link to that "wiikey resources" thread in his post and was asking questions about it ;)

Also wasabi isn't necessarily the best option either seeing as there are now other chips to come. This was posted yesterday...

1) Huh?
2) You download the files, run filechop on them to make them the correct size, then burn.
3) The 1.9g update turns region override off and if you want to play out of region games you'll need to turn it back on with the config disk.
4) GCOS is short for gamecube operating system. Its a homebrew program for the gamecube that allows other homebrew programs to boot and run. the config disks have GCOS built into them.
5) If you have trouble with filechop the padded ones can just be downloaded and burned, but they're much larger than the other ones.
6) Not currently but future games may be an issue. The wiikey team seems to have vanished so dont expect new updates from them. The only other issue to worry about is out of region games with updates in them. If an out of region game runs an update for a wii from a different region it could brick your console.

Thanks JuniR. Missed it on first read.

Like the links from Larryje about the Infectus chip. Always good to know a replacement for the wiikey is out there.
