you need to elaborate on "nothing is working". What have you tried, what is happening, etc?

HDLoader 0.8b using nero but i dont have any cd rw's, not till tommorow

oh, and i was wondering if there was any such thing as softmodding for the ps2? and if it could help at all, all i really wanted to do was burn games to the HD in the ps2 and boot them from it

You can do this, but you are rushing. Sloow down.

Check out this guide on ExploitStation.

All the PS2 apps you need can be found at SKSApps.com

You NEED at least 1 or 2 original PS1 games, a FAT PS2, a PS2 network adapter, an original Action Replay Max for PS2, and a ton of patience.

Your Western Digital HD might not connect to the network adapter right away. Western Digital's HD connector on the back has a different spacing than most drives. You might have to modify the network adapter to make it fit. I've done this, it works, but it's a pain in the ass. I recommend a Seagate or Maxtor drive.

Patience!

Cheers!

I missed the part where you said you are downloading Swap Magic. A burnt copy of Swap Magic will not work, just like a burnt game doesn't work.

Yer set! Just refer to my link (above) to the guide on Exploitstation for instructions. Keep us posted!

You don't need swap magic to run your HDD. You can run your games from your HDD.

Patience!

You have to create your exploit setup and burn it to cd. Use the AR max Media Player to load the .ELF file. That starts off the whole thing! There are a few good exploit creators on SKSapps.com. Be sure to include a dummy file on the disk, or your PS2 might not read it at all.

If you did it right, you should be able to startup your PS2 with your trigger disc, and the exploited memory card, and it will boot to your bootloader. From there, you customize, add HDloaders, emulators, etc. The most recent version of ulaunchelf reads USB memory devices.

If you boot with your trigger disc, and it boots up the PS1 game instead, you did it wrong. Back to the drawing board.

Cheers!

AR MAx should have some sort of media player in it, kinda like windows media player. It allows the PS2 to eject the disk and play .mp3 files, and a neat exploit that allows it to run .elf files.

It's late here, goin' ta bed. I'll see if I can find some other links for guides 'n stuff later.

Search this forum, it's the rectangle up at the top right of this page. Use search terms like: PS2, AR Max, Exploit, CDLoader, PS2 HDD, etc.

Cheers!
